Well, another development on this. I've just received an invoice from FedEx for Ł21 GBP as their bill for presenting the goods to Customs for assessment, or something similar.
A search throws up a few references to this across various sites, and it's not really clear if it's a valid charge or not (doubtful IMO), and they have verbally said they'll waive it.

Lost property - impressive
Travelling to Nairobi last week, in my haste to disembark I left a bag of chocolate and some antacids in the overhead locker.
I realised on the way into town. My own stupidity and I resigned myself to writing them off.
I was therefore impressed that by the time I arrived at my hotel I had a phone message to say the purser George had found them and they were at the EK office for collection. Sure enough I picked them up in my outward flight 5 days later.
Very good service I thought.

That is very impressive especially considering it was at JKIA! I would probably also assume that they were lost for good. And to have them taken to the EK office in westlands which far more convenient than going back to the airport is simply icing on the cake. Well done EK staff! I hope you will fill out a feedback form on the website.

Had a similar situation in CPT few years back. Got back from the annual U.K. holidays to visit family , 3 days later son started asking where I put his iPad that he gave me during landing. Bit of a mad panic when I had a flashback of placing it in the seat pocket and clearly not taking it out again during disembarkation. Called EK CPT head office and was asked to confirm some details and was informed they have it in their head office. Was blown away that it was handed in , was informed that it would of been challenging to sneak it off the plane if found by someone who wished to keep it as all ground/catering/cleaning crew are checked before and after leaving the aircraft by handheld metal detectors.

Sadly that wasn't my experience last May. All my fault however.
I left a twin pack of JW black label sitting in the departure lounge for buses to remote stand. I was headed for Uganda for 3 weeks and immediately informed the purser on board who contacted staff airside. They advised me to contact lost property when I returned, which I did. A single line reply saying nothing was found.
This is by no means a criticism of Emirates lost property. I'm an idiot for creating the problem in the first place. I imagine that the bag was swept up by one of the Y pax as I swanned onto the F bus. All I'm saying is that despite their best efforts, they can't guarantee a happy ending. Prevention is always better than cure!
