Lost and Found on board
A search doesn't come up with many lost and found threads so here's mine.
I left my Kindle on board an EK flight to DXB yesterday. I noticed by the time I got to the lounge but it was too late by then to retrieve it on the day. I was given an email address to contact to see if had been located. By the end of the day I had contacted them, been told it had been located and asked where I would like it sent (EK destination). They would hold on to it for 30 days.
My next transit in DXB is not for 10 weeks so I asked if they would send it to GLA, but was told they can't send to UK airports and would I like it sent FedEx to my home at no further cost?
It seems extremely generous, so before I accept, is there anything I should be aware of? They mentioned UK Customs Charges, so any pointers for these would be appreciated although I can't imagine them being much, if anything.

I am going through DXB today, back to the UK next Wednesday, if I am allowed, I am happy to pick it up for you and post it on from the UK

Quite generous indeed to send it at EK expense.
Just out of curiosity, what class were you flying ?
You were lucky that it happened at DXB. At some outstations, you wouldn't have got it back.

That is generous. At many airports, lost & found is an outsourced function. While it can be quite efficient, it is quite expensive. Even if you pick the item up, you pay a fee. They will typically ship the item, all for a fee.
You should never pay duty (Customs) on an item you own.

I agree, lucky for me and generous of EK. I was flying in Economy and I'm a Skywards Gold member.
I gave them my details when I got home last night and within an hour had a FedEx tracking number. The FedEx site shows an expected delivery of Monday 20th March.
I'll need to stay in over the weekend to finish reading the paper book I started when I got home.

Well, another development on this. I've just received an invoice from FedEx for 21 GBP as their bill for presenting the goods to Customs for assessment, or something similar.
A search throws up a few references to this across various sites, and it's not really clear if it's a valid charge or not (doubtful IMO), and they have verbally said they'll waive it.
