On board fluids & security
On Man- Dubai, transit then on to Brisbane in J. The first leg is overnight so should get an amenity kit. I doubt I will use all of it so intend taking it with me,but would I have to put any lotions in a clear container ( which I will have with me) or will they be discounted?

When passing through security from the landside checkin I have not been asked about my L.A.G's which have NOT been in a plastic bag for years. Also I recently brought EK kitbags on several occasions. I have not used the transfer security checkpoint but I assume the standards will be similar. Based on my experience you will have no problems.

You will have no problems when transiting in DXB (also never had a problem with the amenity kit when transiting in SYD or MEL going on to NZ)

I've never used a clear container/bag for liquids before, I think that rule is enforced mostly in Europe/North America and maybe Australia. Africa/ME/Asia they don't care as long as the liquids are in <100ml containers. I just take my normal toiletry bag usually. Including Dubai regularly.

Just to be safe, pack a plastic ziplock bag extra.
Before you disembark put the toothpaste, creams etc. in there so you can offer it visible to security.
Better be prepared and safe instead of holding up the queue behind you if they do need to do an extra seach.
I have forgotten it twice at DXB and once it was just ignored because i was chatting away, the second time i had to search my amenitykit and show the liquids and caused a wait at the priority security lane

I've never had any problem with liquids during transit security check. I keeps me wondering what they are really looking for.
This week, I was very surprised to find a 500ml bottle of water in my carry-on at destination hotel. I had completely forgotten to trash it, but passed through DXB security un-noticed. It was ex-DXB (not transit). No chance in US or major EU airports ...

Not sure I understand this m3red. I will probably be taking some liquids through Man as that is where I'll be boarding the first flight. I'm allowed the usual 100mls x 10 although I'm unlikely to use that amount. I'm assuming the liquids in the amenity kit are less than 100 Mls each but wasn't sure if they would even be counted. I get the impression from you frequent travellers that as long as I don't go landslide in Dubai, then I don't need to present the amenity kit at security. Have I got this correct?

I havent used a clear bag in probably seven or so years now. I just use a normal toiletry bag and haven't had a problem at numerous airports in the US and DXB (and some in Asia, Europe & Africa). They seem more concerned with the 100ml/3oz rule than anything else. I don't even take it out of my carry on bag (better not jinx it).
