I havent used a clear bag in probably seven or so years now. I just use a normal toiletry bag and haven't had a problem at numerous airports in the US and DXB (and some in Asia, Europe & Africa). They seem more concerned with the 100ml/3oz rule than anything else. I don't even take it out of my carry on bag (better not jinx it).
Flying out of UK is very different kq. If you don't present your liquids in a clear bag they make you purchase one there, and they charge £1. May be more now.
