Sleeping in EK DXB lounge
I am arriving from YYZ on 17OCT 18:35 (EK242) and departing for SIN 18OCT at 07:35.
Are there areas where I can sleep in the EK lounge for the night?
Will I need to reclaim baggage in DXB?
(I am in O class so I will have lounge access.)

There are sleeper area in the B lounge. However it's very small, with limited space.
Was this the only/best connection you could find? If yes, you'll be entitled to Dubai Connect services.

With that long a connection, assuming you don't want to exit and go to Dubai and possibly get a decent hotel room for not much money, then the best kept secret is going to the Concourse A J lounge, and go to the very far end of the lounge and go down a level to the "quiet zone" which is usually deserted and has loungers and blankets provided that you can sleep on. However, I would advise you to bring earplugs (which you can get on board) and eyeshades, in case eye shades are not laid out when you visit.
However, the lounge is relatively insecure when it comes to baggage storage, and the area is not lockable etc. Your paranoia may vary
You won't need to reclaim baggage. However with that kind of connection, I'd arrange a hotel in DXB instead - they are inexpensive (if you don't get Dubai Connect).

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea - but just an idea.

This.
The loungers are OK for sleeping, but the area is right next to loudspeakers and you get blasted when the morning prayers are broadcast.
If there are no amenities present when you get there, check with an attendant if they don't automatically bring some to you.

I've done up to 4 or 5 hours in a lounge. It's not comfortable, but there also aren't any viable alternatives. That said, a 13 hour overnight layover merits the $100 outlay for a hotel room. Honestly one of the worst aspects of having late night layovers is stepping over people sprawled out and sleeping.

There are a lot of flights to Sin, see if you can get an earlier one.

My FT membership doesn't date back as far as some of you guys, but in all my time on the EK forum I know of only ONE poster who a) spent 12 hours in the lounge by choice and b) then claimed to have enjoyed it.
(question to EK regulars : can you guess who that might be ......?

I've done 9 hours overnight a few times - call it laziness more so than intentional choice, in both first and business.
Concourse A for both lounges is best for me. In First, the quiet room with the flat seats worked best for me to get a few hours, the curved wavy ones I can't sleep on well.
In business, as previously mentioned, go to the far ends and down a level - never seen more than a few people there - but not particularly quiet. They only have the curved seats - not great for me.
In both cases - don't expect a normal nights sleep, a few hours at best.
However, once you factor in travelling from whatever gate you arrive at to concourse A, getting a relaxing dinner and a drink or 2 (or more...) then shower the next morning and a good breakfast, then head to your new gate - there's not a great pile of time left.
It's do-able, but not the best experience you could have.

I once did an overnight in the F lounge. It was about 7 hrs. Not again I would say. Unless your body clock says "day" and your final time zone that you are heading to too.

You're way off the mark ukdoctor !
The guy (I think) you're referring to certainly likes his champers ; but even after a couple of bottles of the stuff he's not crazy enough to want to spend all night in a lounge ......
