I've done up to 4 or 5 hours in a lounge. It's not comfortable, but there also aren't any viable alternatives. That said, a 13 hour overnight layover merits the $100 outlay for a hotel room. Honestly one of the worst aspects of having late night layovers is stepping over people sprawled out and sleeping.
