I never understood why people wouldn't want to wear shoes going into the lavatories on planes (at least, the non-shower suites) - my god, those floors are disgusting!

I agree. I see loads of people going to the loo barefoot(usually women) or with socks on ( men).I frequently encounter suspicious puddles in the J loo. I always wear shoes or at least slippers every time.

Me too - I entered the J loo once wearing socks and it wasn't a nice feeling when I got that wet feeling :(...

AGREED but we were discussing coming from the shower suites (where the floors are certainly clean thanks to a staff of two who's sole job is cleaning the 2 rooms after each use:)

Hennessy paradis

Staff of one I think. Yes I omitted the wet hair look from my description of cringe worthy. I don't think anyone can top that!! So it's PJ's, wet hair followed by Dom!

The toilette seats and surrounding floor area in F spas have to be the filthiest things on the plane. I can't recall the last time I saw them clean. I can't even imagine myself walking in there with thick socks, let alone barefoot.
Whenever I use the showers, I take my socks/slippers off at the edge of the floor towel matt, and be very careful after stepping out as to NOT touch any floor area around that.

EK should seriously look at that, along with those annoying taps which should be sensor operated not frigging twist on.

As for the Paradis, well, I never drank it or saw the bottle level in the bar area move down by an inch. I thought its existence was more of a wow factor. Cognac on flights? Thank you but no.

They have 2 girls working on flights to the US (So I assume any flight over 12 hours)

I don't get excited by what kind of wine, etc any airline serves.......If you can afford a first class ticket, then you you can afford to drink as many bottles as you want of DOM or Paradis on the ground in a good restaurant . However, one of my few favorite drinks is cognac so I avail myself of the Paradis generously. However, that said, I would not care or share a tear if they switched to any XO. Its a plane, not a French restaurant!!! The only liquor that has ever excited me on a plane is the Kirsche Vasser on Swiss or Lufthansa - its not expensive but its so great after dinner and these are the only two airlines I've seen it on. Now if someone would just start serving Grappa:)

Just by way of an update ......

The Paradis was, happily, still stocked and readily available on two sectors I flew last week : DUB-DXB and DXB-BKK. I enjoyed a couple of glasses (at least .....and healthy measures of course !)) out of DUB when I spent a fair bit of time chatting to crew in the galley. The Purser knew of no plans for it to be stopped - but that in itself is hardly conclusive. He might have either not yet been told OR not read his EK staff briefings properly.

I just checked the online menu for my flight next week between BKK-DXB, and it still shows that Paradis will be served.

A sad commentary in the FT crowd (present company excluded of course :D ). It amazes me how many posts, regardless of airline is about what high quality wines or liquors are served. You would think they are giving away Gold for free. It's a very anti FT thing to say but if one really can't afford a bottle of Dom or Paradis on the ground (and their is nothing wrong with that) then perhaps flying first class is not where ones priorities should be. I'm sorry but I get such a kick out of people flying F for free but spending hours & hours before a trip researching ways to get into the city (cuz a $30 taxi ride will kill them)

I know this sounds snotty but that's my last intention. My hope is FTers (and others) stop making such a big deal about this stuff as airlines do read some of these posts & other carriers have been known to pull expensive products off their menu for the simple fact they don't want to give it away (and right or wrong, even if your paying w miles airline executive mentality still says they are giving it away)

DYKWIA Jan 19, 2015 4:24 am

But you're OK, as you can afford it? ;)

EK768 JNB - DXB last Friday.

the wine list still says Paradis, but they actually served Prive.
