Emirates miles
Hello all,
my first post here
Booked a flight with Emirates, JFK-PEK with layover in DXB both ways.
According to the miles calculator at webflyer.com, my single way miles should be: 6830+3610 = 10440; and so round trip should be 20880.
In manage booking on Emirates.com, I see that I get (sorry, don't know how to upload a picture):
Miles Details ||| Skywards Miles ||| Tier Miles
North America (East) (JFK) - Far East (PEK) Saver ||| 4750 ||| 4750
Far East (PEK) - North America (East) (JFK) Saver ||| 4750 ||| 4750
Total Miles per Emirates Skywards member ||| 9500 ||| 9500
Family Bonus members earn 20% of Skywards Miles shown which will be credited to the Family Head.
So can anyone tell me if this number of miles is correct? What are tier miles? I tried to google, but don't really understand it.
Little background: this is the first time flying with Emirates, and I don't think I will fly with them more often in the future (I know the expiration is 3 yrs). I live in the US, and so miles applicable to to the US/EU/Asia will be more useful for me
. For this reason I am trying to figure out whether I should collect the miles towards either Alaska Air or JetBlue since they are US-based. Any recommendations?
THANK YOU!

I'm afraid you got that wrong.
EK calculates miles based on regions, not actual mileage legs flown even if that includes stopovers along the way. In your case it's N. America to Asia in saver which translates to the mileage you see on MMB, that is a portion of the flex miles NOT the leg length (you'll need to refer to the calculator to get an accurate figure).
Even if you had stopovers in Milan and Dubai, that wouldn't change a thing. Miles are credited once the outbound/inbound is flown, not at the stopover point.

Wow..., that's so little.
I guess that's because of my low ticket fare???
Strange, flew plenty of times with other major airlines for low ticket fare, but always get at least the 100% miles..., why is Emirates doing this?

Plenty of other major airlines give reduced mileage on discounted fares. EK started doing this about 3 years ago.

Laumeister - if you become an Emirates regular you would soon find that the rate at which miles are accumulated is very much a secondary issue in relation to your ability to actually make use of them
EK have fixed and pretty inflexible business targets - and these do not include making it easy for loyal customers to spend miles the way they want.
