Good deal?

As part of my annual trip to Malaysia, I am looking for places to stopover to explore new places. While researching, I stumbled upon Emirates and saw a fare that looks okay to me. However, I am not familiar the pricing to go from the LAX/SFO to KUL via DXB as I have never been to the Middle East. I understand going to KL through the Middle East would be almost doubling travel time, but I don't mind. For this ticket, I am looking at $1845/person. Is that a good deal for the itinerary below?

June 16 LAX-DXB
June 23 DXB-KUL
July 28 KUL-SFO (via DXB)

Also, how many days in Dubai would be good for a first timer if I indeed go this route?

Thanks!

I'd suggest a minimum of 3 days in Dubai. There is a lot to see and do the days.

Good deal?

I think longer. It takes 3 days just to go through the Dubai Mall! I think a week minimum is the least for a first timer.

with those dates, keep in mind that ramadan starts around the 8th/9th of July and lasts for almost a month. plan accordingly.

3-5 days should be sufficient for a first time visit unless you are a shop till you drop type, then you need to add more days.

It's a terrible time to be here. Ramadan and 50 degree temps. I wouldn't bother and I live here!

How does Ramadaan affect the OP touring there?

Depends what they plan on doing. Sure malls are open, but there is no place to eat. The fountain won't go on until after Iftar.

Really no restaurant except the all day dining offering in a hotel will operate during the day (so no tea at Burj Al Arab). And then everything will be packed for dinner.

Nightclubs will for the most part all be closed, and places that are open will be just serving drinks, no music.

So I would agree that it being Ramadan would affect the options the OP has for a holiday that time of year.

Although the one good thing, hotels are usually very cheap

The OP will also have to contend with Ramadan in Malaysia. However we thought it was OK when we were there last year.
