As part of my annual trip to Malaysia, I am looking for places to stopover to explore new places. While researching, I stumbled upon Emirates and saw a fare that looks okay to me. However, I am not familiar the pricing to go from the LAX/SFO to KUL via DXB as I have never been to the Middle East. I understand going to KL through the Middle East would be almost doubling travel time, but I don't mind. For this ticket, I am looking at $1845/person. Is that a good deal for the itinerary below?

June 16 LAX-DXB
June 23 DXB-KUL
July 28 KUL-SFO (via DXB)

Also, how many days in Dubai would be good for a first timer if I indeed go this route?
