Yes those are easily bookable. The problem the op is having is flying different cabins on the outbound sector after a stopover in DXB.

Here is my experience from yesterday...

Man-dxb-j'burg (can't remember the code :- Cape Town to dxb then stop in dxb until 21 dec.

This was all in j but I wanted the Xmas dxb to man flight in f. It would not ,et me do this and bumped the Cape Town dxb leg to f as well. Not sure a340 f is worth it either. The j flights are 2k gbp but the additional cost of f was another 1500 so not worth it.

On another note why is dxb sin 13k odd dirhams in j but only 15k in f so 2 thousand dirhams difference? Emirates pricing is a mystery!

exc tax

MAN-JNB/CPT round trip , GBP1658-1858 O class , GBP5238 A class

Doing one way O class, the other A would be (1558+5238)/2 = GBP3398

Minus the GBP1558 already paid leaves GBP1540-1740 extra to pay

To to just the final leg in 1st would require 3 x 1 way fares ( or paying for 1st class the whol of the return trip and just doing a voluntary downgrade to business - which would be silly )

Buying 3 x one way fares will cost more than just upgrading the whole ZA-UK journey

Firstly, thanks to all that have replied, much appreciated!

I'm still struggling to get my head around as to why this cannot be booked. Especially when I have a friend that has just returned from Rome. Flying almost identical sectors. FCO-DXB in J, stopped in DXB for 2 days and continued onto KUL in F...

I questioned him as to how he booked his tickets, he advised that all bookings were made from the Multiple Destination engine. Which is the same engine I'm using to attempt to book my tickets.

The only way I see around this problem is upgrading from J to F on the DXB-SIN sector using Skywards Miles.

Because you would need to use 2 fares one to DXB and one onwards, which would be more expensive than booking F the whole way. Why would you pay more to do 1 sector in busines and another in 1st than just to do 1st?

If you really want to do it, you can by booking 2 tickets

How much did this person pay extra to fly 1st in 1 sector. Was it about GBP400-700 extra?

Could it have been one of those promotional mixed fares (J on one leg, F on the other)? I looked them up on EF but can not anything similar ex-FCO or LHR.

I am trying to book a flight outbound in J and inbound in Y (flex). I can't do it online as it prices the inbound based on the cheapest Y availability. If I select search for flex fares, it spits out an error saying "must be in the same booking class" so either all J or all Y.

Anyone any ideas?

Calm down, I'm sure he intends to upgrade with miles.

In order to counter the 'you're all a bunch of elitists' posse, perhaps Moderators should be required to do a sector in Y annually? Booking a sector in Y and getting an op-up shall not count...

Well, I am not a moderator just a humble Ambassador but for only my second ever time I booked and flew a leg in Y on EK last weekend from Beirut to Dubai. No op up ... note to self "do not be so cheap again". I am so grateful that I can afford not to have to do so and that I am prepared to spend my own money on J or F. It does not mean I am rich just that on a discretionary basis I am willing to spend the extra to be comfortable on flights rather than save the money or spend it on something else. My rationale was that if I flew Y then my hotel in Beirut was effectively free but even though I kept repeating that to myself on the journey I found myself not believing myself ...

I man'd up and did this. SFO-DXB-ICN and back. Got a single op-up from ICN-DXB. The rest all in Y. 15 hours SFO-DXB and 11 hours DXB-ICN. And, as luck would have it, the A380 on both ICN legs was changed to a 777 due to the A380 wing issue! So, 3 ultra-long-haul sectors in Y on 777. I really don't plan on repeating.

Ouch. I did a single 4.5 hour sector recently and that was quite enough for me.
