“Special” my foot! Attempt at ‘criminal exploitation’ is more like it (if something like that would exist).
Also strange that I can now upgrade with miles although it’s a Saver (‘O’ bucket) ticket which should only be upgradable after check in opens.

Do you not encounter an error message when you try to go through the miles upgrade option?

.

I did not try it, as I’m flying with Mrs t and we don’t have enough miles to upgrade both of us.
The difference however was that the ‘upgrade with miles’ option, which had been greyed out until. now, had become available and when selecting showed each leg separately and also the entire trip together. All with the correct mileage requirements.
But I would not be surprised if there was going to be an error message when continuing.

Just got the email for an upgrade of the second leg (DXB/CPT) for R20K. So total R46K vs R22.5K for the entire trip. Plus this ‘special offer’ does NOT give me F Lounge access in DXB and only gives J Skywards and tier miles. An offer which is easy to refuse!

Just had an OLCI offer, LHR > DXB £862 p/p. Not too special compared to others!

Has anyone had any luck with any Man>DXB flights? I’m on EK20 in early July, so definitely too early at the moment.

See previous page. £522 for MAN-DXB.

Another one today for CPT/DXB tomorrow (J -> F). Same story, quoted cost more than the entire trip upgrade via MMB. Obviously did not take it. At the moment not a single seat in F is allocated....

Just got an offer for Y > J of £396 for the Jakarta - Dubai leg only. It is kind of tempting.

Just got a cash upgrade email yesterday. So they still do that. Was very poor offer through.

And this morning they had the same leg available for miles upgrade.

I've had a few upgrade offers in the last few months - not every flight though even though some flights have had significant availability.

(They might have pulled the offers for a period after the Dubai weather incident.)

The first post was from 12 years ago, and referred to something else that I can't recall :)

Emails are still sent.

I've remembered what the "trick" was from the original post...

The emails used to have a URL that was a common format. Something like Skywards Number + Flight Number + Date. So, it was easy to generate the URL for any upcoming flights to check if upgrades were available - even if you hadn't received the email.

Didn't last long once it had been discovered :)
