Try taking the Accra or Lagos flights. They have teams of staff prowling the gate area with mobile weighing scales and bag tags. They pick up probably 100-150 overweight bags each flight.

I've never had anyone weigh my hand luggage while travelling EK. And it's always been above 10kg

If you are departing through the Y terminal in DXB, now you do. They stand at the gate before immigration and make everyone weigh there bags, even if you are carrying a handbag, plastic bag etc.

The guy with the scales is there at the Business/First area also, but doesn't usually do anything unless there is a particularly huge piece being smuggled through.

Congrats. I'm sure you are very proud about openly flaunting the regulations.

Well, it hasn't really been enforced - until now it seems. I like keeping a set of clothes in my carry-on bag just in case something gets lost, and that usually ups the weight a bit.

Anyway thanks for the heads-up guys.

never get checked at SIN or LGW or MAN. i have no idea how much my bag weighs but i try to keep it as light as possible to avoid back ache lol. but i suspect it probably is over 7kg-not by much though, because my laptop+charger alone is probably 5kg.
