Baggage

I try to know my baggage weigth before i go to the airport, to bee sure that i had no extra ,but always in the airport i find that i had about 1 kg extra due ,and emirates staff or their agent in Doha are very conservative and sometimes rude in 1 extra kg.
what can we do , even in last time i had 0.8 extra they didinot permit:confused::confused:

Not wishing to sound facetious but perhaps you should make sure that you pack 1kg less luggage than the maximum permitted when using your scales each time to be on the safe side. It could be that your scales are a bit out of whack?

You said that much more politely than I'd been thinking. ;)

OP - An alternative to the above is when you get to the airport, weigh your bag at an unused check-in desk. If it's overweight take something out and put it in your hand baggage, your pockets or the nearest waste bin.

Well, I on the other hand have had a great experience with EK when it comes to luggage. This time on JFK-DXB-BOM, I bag was 2KG over and the other 3 kg. In addition my hand bag was 10kg over. They checked in all 3 bags and did not charge me a penny. ;).

I've had good experiance with all EK check-in desks when it comes to baggage weight except in DXB which it's not possible to let go of 1 Kg.

I concur. At DXB they can be quite annoying, in fact!

At least 17kg in one hand bag. I bet you were popular, not to mention probably a danger to other pax.

It is this sort of abuse that will eventually spoil the often flexible baggage policing for everyone.

At DXB they can be anal to the point of being ridiculous, especially with regards to hand luggage. They made me remove my laptop charger from my backpack to ensure the weight stayed below 7kg, but are perfectly happy to allow passengers to carry 10+ Duty Free shopping bags on board.

I've never had any issues with hand luggage at DXB, sometimes it was way more than 7 Kg.

Even in my case the problem has only been with checked luggage. It was 2 kilos over and the agent insisted I reduce the weight. I didn't argue because they're well within their rights to do so, but I let him know it was only going into my hand baggage so the weight wasn't being reduced. And he had no problem with that.

over all i think it is good to have rules but i'm sure i can bring from the duty free over 20 kg and nobody can say that is over weigth!!!!

EK allowance is 30kg in Y for check-in and 7kg for hand luggage which is think very generous compared to QR?

On the other hand QR agent in LGW forced me to remove the laptop from my hand bag and carry it on its own! This because the bag was about 9kg!

But that doesn't answer your original question of what you could do about your baggage being overweight.

It probably depends on the agent mood. Same thing happened to me in BAH, had a 10 kg hand luggage . Agent forced me to remove 2 books and laptop from myit and carry them on their own, even though I didn't have any checked bagage. I politely told him I will be putting them back once I leave check In desk, but he kept insisting I carry them on their own which I did for 5 minutes before putting them back in the handbag.
I wonder how some agents think:rolleyes:

On one occasion last year I was travelling from LGW to BKK with only hand luggage. The check-in agent was very suspicious of my hand luggage (presumably because I had no check-in luggage) and insisted on weighing it. He was most crestfallen when it was less than 7kg.
