You keep on hinging to the few Israelis that will drive over to "shave off 20$ from airfare" and ignore the rest of the reasons (except for the real estate deal), so what is a valid reason to build an airport, and where should it be built instead?

I insist as much as others insist (naively in my opinion) that ETM is a good thing and is called for by necessity.

Here are a couple of valid reasons to build an airport:
1. Private funding.
2. Public funding when demand exists for air traffic, which current airport fails to serve.

ETM is neither - it is being paid for by tax payers, and it does not solve a demand/capacity problem.

Money spent on ETM should be invested in better ground public transportation - which Israel lacks, and if created will serve a dual purpose for those living in the south and the north - daily fast, frequent and convenient transportation to the cultural, business and political centers of Israel (Tel Aviv and Jerusalem) and to TLV.

Shocking development

I just checked the ramon-aiport.com web site in the hope of receiving miraculous news that the airport would be open by mid-March, when I'm due to arrive in Ovda by SAS. Instead, I was greeted by the entirely unexpected, unpredictable and shocking news that "Opening" has now been enhanced to "mid 2018."

When Ramon does actually open, will VDA immediately cease operations as a civilian airport? What about ETH?

And in typical Israeli style, while the quick facts on the right side say "Mid 2018", the main text still say "Eilat’s new Ramon Airport will open just north of the city Eilat in early 2018"

Let the transportation minister focus on his main task right now, which is avoiding the embarassment of the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv train line not opening on time on March 30th.

Unfortunately, I believe he's preoccupied with trying to convince Likud members to vote him in as the next leader. Politics above all else

March 30, 2018 - not even close to the original deadline! This has been in the planning dating back to 2000!
