Checkin with the app

I did checkin with the new app
( i also printed the boarding pass just in case)
Security wants a printed boarding, they dont want a QR code
on an iPhone scree.
( so she sent me to the checkin desks, lucky i had the printed
The ticket and i didnt need to stand in line for checkin..)

I tried to check the QR code in all the points:
Security at the glass doors doesnt work and they want a print.
The X ray machine wants to see a print.

At The KDL: the machine doesnt recognize the QR code

At the gate: the girl from ELAL didnt know about it and was very surprised
When it worked on her machine.

So why do i need the app and the QR code ticket????

Hey Lior,
Just want to make sure - you're referring to the process in BGN airport, yes?

Hi Lior,
I checked, we offer support for the mobile ticket you were referring to in a limited number of destinations: Newark, Toronto, Amsterdam, Paris, Marseilles, Barcelona, Vienna, Brussels, Warsaw, Prague and Frankfurt.

We're working on expanding to other destinations these days, in which all actions via mobile will be supported.

Hi Liat,

Does this work in both directions - i.e. TLV -> EWR (Newark) and the reverse? (LY027 and 028, respectively).

Also, can you use the QR code and printed paper ticket interchangeably throughout the "process"?

Also just as a general comment (which has always bugged me) - El Al seems to make no distinction anywhere between EWR and JFK/LGA (which are completely separate airports/destinations - granted they're in a constrained area together). So, can you confirm that you actually meant Newark (KEWR) vs. John F. Kennedy International (KJFK) or both?

Case in point: http://note.io/14kzccv and http://note.io/14zSheV

I've heard/seen the same thing (including Newark in New York -- even though that's not technically correct - but, it's good enough in some situations).

It seemed a little strange to me that they're even lumping together JFK and EWR (which, IIRC, are run by 2 separate companies/agencies). This is entirely incorrect and should be split up.

It's extremly common to have the 2 combined by airlines.
Try searching for a flight to New York on nearlly any airline (BA, KL for example), and Newark will appear, nothing to grump about ELAL here, they all do it.

ELAL is quite correct here. Go to ba.com and search for any flight specifically to EWR. You will still find results for JFK.

They are both run/operate by Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ)

Not supported in TLV so how would it be bidirectional?

He meant to ask that perhaps Liat meant (although I doubt it), that for these destinations it works, and it would work bidirectional.

Hi,
Unfortunately it's still not bidirectional, as the service is still not supported in TLV.
