I've heard/seen the same thing (including Newark in New York -- even though that's not technically correct - but, it's good enough in some situations).
It seemed a little strange to me that they're even lumping together JFK and EWR (which, IIRC, are run by 2 separate companies/agencies). This is entirely incorrect and should be split up.
