If that is incorrect, maybe the LY rep can respond?

Hi - All the planes you mentioned have a VOD system in buisness class. In economy, you can watch the same movies yet the vod system has less features (you can't control the movies: pause, rewind etc)

Doesn't that mean they aren't VOD? (Not on-demand)

the VOD on the 777 (not the 2 new ones) and 747 (not the one from singapore airlines) is so dated. the movies are OLD and elal do not replace them every month. i rather have the regular IFE with the movies mentioned on the magazine. much newer !

i saw the re-runs of ramzon and Savri Maranan too many times already !!!

I'm aware they're dated. But if they are as EL AL Rep. describes them, i.e. you can't pause, fast forward, or rewind, then they aren't VOD systems. They are looped entertainment systems.

EKC has now winglets.
LY has received 2 more 738s: EKM and EKR (dd in 2000 to Thomson).

EL AL refreshing its fleet? - kind of

Article today in Hebrew Globes saying that El Al is buying 1 or leasing 2 new 787s from Boeing as part of a convoluted loan deal.
I'm having trouble following the intricacies of the deal, as it also involves options of the 737-900ER order.

Then at the end of the article there is a brief mention of negotiations with Boeing and Airbus for replacing and refreshing the entire fleet.

So Boeing are going to lend LY cash to purchase or lease at least one 787 from them (though 40 million doesn't sound like very much...) due for delivery 2015-2016.

The article in English:

They're lending money so LY can either buy one 788 or lease two of them

LY to buy 16-18 Boeing 787's or Airbus A330's

Finally LY figured out what we were trying to tell them for the last 10 years, its a shame that they cancelled the 787's a few years ago and now we will have to wait at least another 8 years for LY to get them.

I just hope that it won't be to late for them because I personally together with a few other people I know switched to BA a year ago after giving up hope on LY.

Poor Airbus, once again they will be spending time and money bidding against Boeing and they haven't a chance in hell...

So all these 787s are due to replace the entire long Haul fleet so 767s,777, and 744s, interesting.

Perhaps if they also install a competitive hard product I'll consider flying with them and in the meantime, and for the next 8 years it will have to be BA I'm afraid...

And that's especially after Boeing is giving LY a loan.

Well replacing the 767's and 777's I can understand, but replacing a 747 with a 787 I don't think will ever happen, it just doesn't make sense.

Same here and I guess same goes for lots of other people too.

Hope they don't get the A330. By the time it arrives, the A350 will already be flying. Shame they canceled the 787 orders as well originally.

But I hope they're smart about it and install a good product. clubman, I don't see how the 787 can replace the 747. But a nice replacement for the 744s would be some nice new 748s!
