Hi there, I'll be travelling CAI-TLV and possibly AMS-TLV or TLV-AMS. Two questions,

1. How are the loads between CAI/TLV?
2. Given the choice, would you prefer El Al or KLM? If so, why?

Thanks,

Can't help you with number 1, but for AMS-TLV it depends on LY's equipment on the day of your travel and the cabin of your choice. If you are seeking for J travel - look for a date when LY has a heavy on the route and the choice is a no brainer. For Y - go for the cheapest/convenient timing.

If it's a direct AMS-CAI - save your self some security grilling time and go direct.

I'm pretty sure the 757 and 737 operate the route and even they have a superior J product than KLM.

CAI -TLV Empty, I think they only have the flights for show (peace).

On TLV-CAI there were 10 people on the flight

On CAI-TLV there were 25 people on the flight

I thought LY dropped AMS; at least they talked about it a few years ago.

Don't forget Air Sinai to Cairo but they are "invisible." So it may be difficult to find them.

Did they really? I’m surprised.

Anyway, they didn’t and I cannot see them dropping it either.

In fact, on week days they have 2 daily flights.

EL AL used to fly AMS to New York. I flew the route on a 707 twice. I had been promised an upgrade to F, if possible but it was always full.

This was the route Laila Khaled / PLO tried to hijack the plane.

Is this route no longer operating?

We're interested in flying to CAI, but can't find this flight on the schedule anymore.

I thought that flights between Egypt and Israel had to take place based on the peace treaty agreement - is that not the case?

I know I can fly RJ via AMM, but a non-stop would be so much easier (and a better use of my meager Matmid point balance)

Google shows EgyptAir flight 54 operating on the TLV-CAI route Sundays, Mondays and Fridays and El Al flight 444 on Fridays only.

Thanks,
The LY flights are not available in mid-October, when I'm interested in traveling. Looks like flight are back up to 3x week in Nov.

Egyptair, although it operates the aircraft that fly CAI-TLV, does not sell or market those flights. They maintain a paper subsidiary called Air Sinai, and the flight numbers use the Air Sinai 4D prefix, rather than Egyptair's MS -- so search for 4D 54, rather than MS 54. Also, these flights are not eligible for *A points (AFAIK).

Regarding LY, most of the Tishrei holidays this year fall on Thursday night / Friday morning in October, so it could just be that you searched on one of those dates and thus no flights were operating.

Searching OAG for a random date in October, I found:

Air Sinai
Flight number - 4D 0055
11:00 (10 Oct) Tel Aviv-Yafo Ben Gurion International
12:10 (10 Oct) Cairo
1hr 10mins Total Travel Time
Aircraft type - 735

And I found this on most Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays I checked.

Good luck!

You're right; I had meant to write Wed. night/Thursday morning. But Rosh Hashana is also on Thurs. night/Friday morning, even in Israel...
