Easyjet tax query
How can you find out the portion of tax charges to your flight?
I recently booked flights from Belfast to Barcelona through a promotions company.
I believe they have overcharged me for the taxes on the flight.
Searching for the flight prices on Kayak i found that the tax charge was 11.37.
The promotions company told me the taxes were 45.
They had tried to offer me Aer Lingus flights but the times didnt suit.
Funnily enough the Aer Lingus taxes were 48 so i think they may have tried to recoup the additional cost to them for booking Easyjet instead of Aer Lingus.
I have since contacted Easyjet to see if they can tell me but i haven't had a response.
Does anyone know if i could find this information out for myself?

Looking at Expedia, EZ's taxes from Belfast are just 11 (when you strip out the Expedia 4.50 booking fee), which is the 11 UK Government Depature Tax. Have they also charged you for checking in a bag and / or for priority boarding?

the 18 luggage charge is additional to the 45 making it 63 in total.
the promotions company have their own travel agent as they sent the email witht the flight details.
they didn't add anything on to the Aer Lingus flights so why would they add on to the Easyjet flight?

Well this is what they have told me:
As per the Terms and Conditions of the promotion The SPAR/VIVO European Flight Pass excludes compulsory charges, such as airport taxes, fuel surcharges and passenger service charges.
Unfortunately we are unable to ascertain where your quote of 12 has originated from however this does sound like only the UK Government Departure Tax. There are other taxes that make up the airport taxes charged by an airline and Easyjet is comparable to those of AerLingus who also fly that route.
We are unable to obtain the exact taxes from Easyjet as their website does not have this facility. We therefore base our taxes on airlines that have a comparable route, such as Aer Lingus. Aer Lingus is our preferred choice of airline for this route due to their transparency of airport taxes. We offer this option to clients for this reason however Easyjet was booked for you at your request.
We hope this clarifies the situation further for you.
So basically they guessed Easyjet's taxes as a comparison with Aer Lingus.
I just wanted to know if i could prove to them that Easyjet's taxes were less and get the difference refunded.
Still waiting on Easyjet although they sent me an email to say that customer service was under severe pressure due to weather conditions in Europe and an increased number of queries!

I doubt you are going to get much out of Easyjet. Most LCCs discourage booking through 3rd parties. Indeed Ryanair has taken them to court to try and forbid them from offering flights. As the LCCs such as Easyjet don't offer any kind of commission to agents, you are nearly always going to end up paying more if you use a 3rd party than booking direct with the LCC. The 3rd party agent can add what they want to the fare and disguise it any way they want.

What the booking site have probably done is taken the EasyJet total fare and subtracted their assumed taxes from it. Thus you're probably paying the right amount.

fair enough. I didn't book through a 3rd party, they just made the booking for me, using my card details.
i had just hoped i could maybe get a better deal as they had been really unhelpful previously and i would prefer the money to be in my pocket, not theirs!!
