I'm a big fan of just getting the kids' meal. I think they just won't give you the drink if you're over 12.

I love their Swedish platter with salmon and herring and the shrimp sandwich is great too!

Are these available globally? The "salmon" is probably Norwegian rainbow trout but herring and toast skagen sound tempting.

At IKEA, do you have to put your lunch together by yourself?

It's like a cafeteria. You get a tray, pick the food you want and walk up to the cashier and pay.

Had the fried chicken fingers and mashed potatoes yesterday. My wife chose the stuffed cabbage with french fries. Ok food, spectacular for $12.

There will be some radom bits left over as well... :D

In Burlington Ontario (exurb of Toronto) many seniors make their way daily to the local IKEA for the cheap breakfast.

I guess you don't have a local Wal Mart?

Thank the gods we don't!

In the burbs, I know there are some Wal*Marts.

But I do my best to avoid the hell that is called a suburbs, so I dont have to pass by one often!

Its not convenient for me to drive down just to eat there, but I took a day off a few months back (IKEA and Costco are no-go zones on weekends) and went down to pick up a few things, and of course had the meatballs with potatos and lingonberry juice (which I do 80/20 with Sprite).

I also picked up a bag of frozen ones in the food section along with some good rye crackers and some lingonberry preserves. Mmmm.

Better than anything I was ever served on an Untied flight.

I nuked some frozen meatballs for lunch just a couple of hours ago. :)

Rather than use croutons on my salad, I crumble some of the little "Viktoria" wholemea rolls on top - tasty!

Ahh but you can

That's not hard.

That said, the cinnamon rolls are pretty good, and at $1 or so are a much better deal than the not-significantly-better-but-much-pricier ones at Cinnabon.

But you can't buy the Ikea ones at the airport :)

The IKEA is one light rail stop away from PDX. Hop off the train, walk about 10 minutes and the cinnamon goodness is waiting for you. You'd probably have to run all the way back to the airport to work off the calories.

My friends in SEA eat there all the time. I had never been in one before and asked to go one night. On the way there, their 7 and 4 year old kids threw a fit because they weren't hungry and didn't want to go to the huge blue restaurant. The meatballs were pretty good but I'm a bit sad that I didn't have some lefse.

Noted. I may have to give it a try if I'm ever in PDX.

(As an aside, Cinnabon is a small part of the reason I prefer the food at the AA/Southworst terminal at SJC to the food at the AA/UA terminal at SFO.)

I've eaten there once or twice when I've been desperate, but I'd rather cross the road and go to McDonalds - and I say that as someone who despises fast food.

Ikea food IMO is pretty terrible, even for the price.
