Have you eaten at IKEA?
Seriously.
I've got a big shopping day coming up. I'm fine with the menu...is the food any good (Plymouth Meeting store)? |
Cafeteria food. They've been in my neck of the woods for nearly 30 years (and now we have 2 stores in the metropolitan area) with a cafeteria for most of that time. Quality varies with what you order.
|
love IKEA food, esp the meatballs and dessert plates. :)
|
I try to not dine in my furniture stores.... but have been tempted there.... my partner figures their swedish meatballs HAVE to be good.... :)
|
Blech! It seems to be all pre-packaged frozen food that they just reheat. The very few times I've eaten there the food hasn't been defrosted enough and was cold in the middle. I'll never eat there again.
|
Hilarious thread :D
It's pretty hard to stuff up eggs, bacon and sausages and I recall it was fine on our one brekky visit (Sydney). Breakfast should be okay if you can do that. Unlimited espresso made for a high-energy shopping session - happily just one big item purchase at 80% off. :) Not a kitchen appliance, no Diningbuzz link that I can make. For its target market - young singles, young families with kids, its a very good setup for usually nice looking stuff (as cheaply made as possible). |
The Ikea seafood salad is absolutely delicious.
|
The meatballs are actually pretty damn decent.
|
|
The Swedish Meatballs are awesome... The desserts are good too. The chocolate torte thing is good.
Oh, and on the way out, pick up some cinnamon rolls! Reheat great the next morning! |
The hot dogs at the Sydney IKEA are pretty foul.
Then, they are $1 so don't expect a dining experience! |
I think the hot dogs are fine for what they cost ($.50 or something)...
|
i thought it was fine, but its not like i was expecting anything..
|
Ikea food is a decent deal. I usually eat there before I shop there.
It's a smart move on Ikea's part. Customers who are not hungry, and whose kids are not hungry, will tend to stay longer and spend more. |
I Would not Drive to Eat there
But when there, it is okay. Weekdays, with lower sales, often results in bad food on the steam table. Best to order what just got refilled. Salmon, ok. Chicken, ok. Meatballs, ok...hold the gravy for me please. The Seafood Salad (West Coast Salad) might only be availiable during the week...they can't make them fast enough during the weekends. Shrimp sandwich is a good value too (very low margin!). If there are two of you, consider splitting the largest meatball meal.

The hot dogs/buns are full of air. |
My sister takes my nephew there all the time. She says that he LOVES the meatballs, but he also eats dirt, so I'm not sure he's a great judge of food.
|
The food is okay, but there's usually a better option close by. Even Applebee's would be better...
|
It is cheap.
Fills the stomach after a lot of walking. Wouldn't call it fine dining but its a furniture store. What do you expect? I usually grab a hot dog but my wife likes the meatballs. |

:(
just go buy a TV dinner everyone, your judgment of what is even edible is horrible :D IKEA to EAT? Look at their processed furniture, I bet their food directions are really appealing! Does it show little pictures of how the cook should insert the throwaway tray into the oven. and how to make sure you use a mitt to get it out without burning themselves, with a WARNING: Food MAY be hot! |
I really like IKEA-food, especially "Kötbullar" (meatbals) and the hot dogs. In germany they also offer breakfast for less than 1€ ;)

The meatballs are good. The salmon was mediocre. However, anything is better than Applebee's. |
IKEA food is great and its every where the same. The apple cake with vanilla sauce is great. Especially when you heat it up a bit. Just put a minute or two in the microwaves IKEA has at there cafeterias for parents to heat up baby-food.
|
IKEA's meatballs are excellent. Good enough for Swedish expats all over the world to flock to the place.
They usually do an international adaptation though, by serving them with fries/chips. True Swedish meatballs are served with *boiled* potatoes! |
I prefer the hotdogs and condiment selection at sam's club, but ikea isn't bad. why has no one mentioned the soft serve? :D
|
One of the best deals on the planet
Definitely go there to eat!!!
|
Decent food for a cafeteria inside a furniture store.

I've had their 99 cent meatballs and their 99 cent breakfasts, though it's been a while. Not sure if those prices are all the time or part of their sales.
It's better then many other places, and the meatballs are pretty good. |

True that my mom's home made meatballs are unbeatable, but I kinda like the ones at IKEA anyway. Is it still the ones from Scan they're serving ?
Oh no, I don't think they've ever sold the Scan balls. (Mamma Scan is pretty good). The Ikea balls are based on Kamprad's mother's recipe (or so the story goes) and I think it's findus or felix that makes them. |

Making the sauce yourself is pretty easy. After frying your own balls in a pan, take out balls, pour in cream, stir vigorously. |
Great Deal!
Come on, folks! IKEA dining is a great deal and good value for money. For parents with toddlers, this is fine dining at its best!
|
Meatballs are pretty good as well as the gravlax.
