Decent food for a cafeteria inside a furniture store.

But when there, it is okay. Weekdays, with lower sales, often results in bad food on the steam table. Best to order what just got refilled. Salmon, ok. Chicken, ok. Meatballs, ok...hold the gravy for me please. The Seafood Salad (West Coast Salad) might only be availiable during the week...they can't make them fast enough during the weekends. Shrimp sandwich is a good value too (very low margin!). If there are two of you, consider splitting the largest meatball meal.

I've had their 99 cent meatballs and their 99 cent breakfasts, though it's been a while. Not sure if those prices are all the time or part of their sales.
It's better then many other places, and the meatballs are pretty good. |

Actually, they are crap. Take it from a swede. Try home made meatballs. You'll never want to touch an IKEA meatball again.

True that my mom's home made meatballs are unbeatable, but I kinda like the ones at IKEA anyway. Is it still the ones from Scan they're serving ?
Oh no, I don't think they've ever sold the Scan balls. (Mamma Scan is pretty good). The Ikea balls are based on Kamprad's mother's recipe (or so the story goes) and I think it's findus or felix that makes them. |

I live right next to a very Swedish restaurant in NYC, and I must day that although their meatballs are better, the basic flavor of the sauce is the same at Ikea. And it's only a 1/4 the $. (Well, more if you include the cr@p furniture and assembly time).
Making the sauce yourself is pretty easy. After frying your own balls in a pan, take out balls, pour in cream, stir vigorously. |
Great Deal!
Come on, folks! IKEA dining is a great deal and good value for money. For parents with toddlers, this is fine dining at its best!

Meatballs are pretty good as well as the gravlax.
|
I actually really like their meatballs meals. And they serve them with either fries or boiled potatoes, your choice. (I prefer the fries, sorry).
Living in the DC area, we have family visit from all over the country and IKEA (and its cafeteria) has become a "tourist" destination for our family members. In fact, I'm taking my Aunt there this evening, and yes, we will be eating dinner there. I think it's just part of the experience! :D |
My brother and his wife love to eat the 99 cent breakfast at the Ikea in Austin. DH and I tried it out once. It was basically a plate with eggs, bacon, and sausage. Nothing special and pretty greasy. It's nice to have the option to grab something while there, but I wouldn't go out of my way just to eat there. Although, my brother might beg to differ.

If I'm there to shop I'll stop for an open-face shrimp or gravlax sandwich with a cup of good coffee but I wouldn't go there just to eat.
But if I'm driving by I will stop at the Swede Shop to stock up on Leksand flatbread (the wedge-shaped package), Knackebrod Flerkorn (cylindrical package) and, best of all, Vasterbottonsost, a delicious cheese that's like a cross between cheddar and parmesan. Oh yes, at the Elizabeth, NJ store the cafeteria gives you an excellent view of runway action at EWR! |
