Agreed, I have my methods too, but nobody can duplicate Dennys hashbrowns at home. And there is no equal for soaking up a couple of over-easy eggs.

Anyone else try Arby's stuffed potato cakes?

I think they're pretty nifty as an alternative to plain potato cakes every so often, though certainly not a substitute.

I like hash browns. I do not like fried potato lumps. Waffle House or Cracker Barrel - mmmmm. At home, that green package from the refrigerated case at the grocery store does a decent job. I never bother from scratch.

Oh gawd...I love those waffle house runs (pun intended) Scattered, smothered, covered is seriously the best hangover cure.

Yep, they are pretty good. The best are Sonic's Tater Tots.

The Northeastern US people will get this one: the best breakfast potato unit is that of Wawa. It's baked and not deep-fried, so admittedly not as crispy, but still very good, especially with ketchup drizzled on it.

That is....Until now!

A friend gave me a carton of these. They are dehydrated, and my hopes were not high as I tried them this morning, but man was I surprised. By far the best hashbrowns I've ever had outside of a restaurant, and better than 90% of what restaurants offer. Perfect taste and texture. Too bad they are out of stock right now from the manufacturer. I will be ordering a couple of cases asap. It's a miracle for a hashbrown junkie like me.^^^

6 gallons would be way too much even for me. They say the 4.2 oz cartons will be available again Feb. 6.

Chick-Fil-a hash browns. Usually nice and crisp on the outside, not too soggy. We not only have ours but we always have to pick up a few boxes to go for the dogs. They now recognize the bag and go crazy when they see it.

Since Denny's uses dehydrated hashbrowns it doesn't surprise me these taste very similar I was a graveyard cook at Denny's while putting myself through college and used to have to "prep" hashbrowns for the dayshift everyday. Prep consisted of opening the box, adding hotwater, then moving to the walk in cooler. They were fully rehydrated and ready to cook after about an hour.

Thanks for confirming, Ooompa Loompa. I can't believe it took me this long to figure this out. I always thought they used frozen, as that's what almost all restaurants use, and that dehydrated were backpacker sustenance. I tried every frozen brand, the refrigerated types, and every possible way from scratch. Nothing came close to that perfect texture and crispiness of Dennys. I must say though, while I find Dennys in California/west coast overall to be very consistent for breakfast, several of their locations in other states have been hit or miss. 2 locations in Amarillo recently sampled were horrid.

Don't want potato units.. try Subway flatbread or Opa Breakfast wraps..

Otherwise, those who choose to buy breakfast at fast food establishment have to specifically request for unwanted items to be removed..
