Glad you guys brought this up.

I thinking about 2 places. One is a bar/restaurant, where they have good burgers in the Tribecca neighborhood. Walkers.

The other is a supermarket that has a prix-fix dinner special. Fairway. Upper westside.

I've been to both and the food is good. If we do the burger place, it'll be cheaper than the supermarket.

Red wine would be a good idea at whatever is decided.
Full bottles or 375's ok, since I expect RP or WS 100 pointers.

I feel like I'm missing out on something really fun, dhammer!

Should my plans firm up around early July, I'd like to incorporate the best of your wine Do and hopefully book a 'Brooklyn Reality Tour - Aussie Edition', into our trip... and hopefully write it up for a travel article.

Still psyched about this - I figure Brooklyn, wine, coffee, expats & Aussies and travel all go together, in one way or another.

Maybe I can get some expats in Brooklyn or Manhattan along too.

Great thread idea. I don't think I can make it to the Do but the faves of my limited stash currently include:

1998-2004 Vertical of Phelps Insignia
2002-2005 Vertical of Sea Smoke 10 and Southing Pinot Noir
2002 Penfolds Grange
1997 BV Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet
2004 Biale "Black Chicken" Zinfandel
2005 Turley Zinfandel Moore Earthquake Vineyard
2001 Henry's Drive Reserve Shiraz

My problem is that I keep waiting for the "right" time to drink these wonderful wines. I really like the WSJ "Open that bottle Night" for that reason. We opened a bottle of 2002 Sea Smoke 10 on OTBN night last month. Perfection in a pinot! ^

Thanks! I've been a fan of Biale Zins for a long time and am a member of the winery's Black Chicken Society which gets early access to BC releases as well as their other wines. We also love their Hillclimber Syrah. That said, you can never have too much Biale....especially if the price is right. Thanks again. ^

I personally love their Thomann Station Petite Sirah and the Napa Ranches Zin, can't get enough of them ^

It's been pretty cool looking over the other selections for top wines in the cellars.

It's really gotten me thinking about what makes a top wine?

Is it my favorite wine, my go to whenever I want something I know I can depend on? I wouldn't say that at all.

Is it the wine I paid the most money for? There was one bottle like that which didn't last through a party a few months ago, but none of the ones I've considered my top wines were the ones I paid the most money for. Indeed, the bottle I believe has the most value in my cellar, was filler to fill out a case before it acheived the status it has now.

Wine is so subjective as to what people like and don't like, yet I'm finding that some of the stuff others have listed in this fairly short thread are also some of my favorites.

I just found this thread. I will try for June 22, but it is too far in advance to commit.

I took a quick look at my wine cabinet and the best things in it are:

Harlan Estate 1996 thru 2003

2000-Ch Latour;Lafite Rothschild;Haut Brion;Angelus

I was quite surpirsed a few weeks ago when I was reading a Wine Spectator and noticed that my 97 Harlan Estate recently sold at auction for >$1,300. I doubt I paid more than $125.
