This is a very good wine, depending on the year. We haven't been able to find it in our area for a while. I do remember we enjoyed it. Chateau St Michelle is a reasonable but good everyday wine.

Three bucks in Minnesota also. I've found it to be a good wine to cook with.

I like the Rex Goliath Chard. Can usually find it for $5.99 or $6.99. Cost Plus World Market usually features it.

Gamay Rouge

We LOVE the V. Sattui winery in St. Helena, Ca. Their Gamay Rouge is the best! They don't sell retail, you have to order off their website or visit the winery (one of the few that still offers free tastings). Most of the stuff I've ordered had been around 10-15 per bottle. Shipping is a cost, but well worth it!

A couple suggestions:

2005 Mahi Sauvingon Blanc $13 USD
2007 Alamos Torrontes $8 USD
2006 Alamos Malbec $8 USD
2005 Te Kairanga Sauvignon Blanc $15 USD
2006 Finca Monteflores Seleccion Torrontes $9 USD

The two Torrontes picks are just explosive wines that are < $10. In my mind, both of those are incredible values right now. With the dollor being so weak, finding quality wine < $10 is increasingly rare.

We recently tried Turning Leaf's Pinot Noir. While maybe not fabulous, it was nice enough that we went back for a few more bottles We have found it on sale a few times for $4.99 ^ I think it's regularly maybe $8-10

I am sure it must be great for dinner conversation It is on sale @ BevMo for $6.99, but in limited quantities. It is sold out at two of the three stores by my house. This, of course, will prompt me to go to the third store to get some to try There is also a white wine for $8.49 ~~ Folie a Deux Menage a Trois White '06.

It has a nice bio: BRONZE MEDAL, 2007 SAN FRANCISCO INT'L WINE & SPIRITS COMP. Made from Zinfandel, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, the delicious '06 Folie a Deux Menage a Trois simply drinks well; enjoy with barbecues.

2004 E Guigal Cotes du Rhone

About $10, widely available and a good value for a light, e-z drinking everyday red

There is a very good African wine that my daughter got for me and I really liked it.

I can't remember the name but I will be stopping at that store tomorrow and will pick up a bottle..

As recommended by jim87, we tried Folie au Deux's Menage a Trois (a Zin based blend for less than $10). We also enjoyed it and would recommend it ^

Barnwood Petite Syrah 2005, absolutely delicious. Shouldn't be more than 5-6 bucks at your local Trader Joe's.
Castle Rock 2006 Mendocino County Pinot Noir - 10.99$ local Trader Joe's
Storrs 2006 Chardonnay ~15$ or so, should be available at any good wine shop - note that it is not the buttery, oaked up style that has been California's style for the past 20 years..it's much crisper, more vibrant across the palate.

I forgot to add, for you Trader Joe's shoppers. The 2005 Trader Joe's Organic Syrah from Mendocino is delicious for 4.99$. It doesn't have the complexity of a more expensive wine but for the price it's rich and textured with lots of ripe berry fruit and it minimizes the oak so you get more of that awesome crushed black pepper nose.

I bought a case of this to have as house wine. It's good for the first night; but leaves a bit to be desired the second night. Sea Smoke it's not.

I've found the Pillar Box Red to be pretty reliable, and I believe it's available at Costco for less than $10 a bottle. Gruner Veltiners have become a pretty big favorite at our house, and they are often in liter bottles, rather than 750 ml, so more bang for the buck. Liberty School Cabernet Sauvignon is not bad for the price.
