I must agree, however gin is vastly superior to vodka. I recommend the North Shore Gin from Chicago.

Thumbs up Mai Tai

Since I didn't make it to Hawaii this spring for the first time in a few years, Mrs. PVDProf suggested (demanded) I try to make (her) a passable Mai Tai at home.

For two (find a friend, or enjoy another!), mix
2 oz white rum (Cruzan)
1.25 oz Amaretto
1 oz triple sec
3 oz good, pulpy OJ
3 oz pineapple juice
Juice of half a lime

Pour half the mixture into a shaker with 4-5 ice cubes, and shake vigorously. Pour into a glass. Garnish with a pineapple wedge and a cherry (I have to make an extra garnish for Master PVDProf). Float 1 oz very dark (Meyers) rum. Repeat with other half of the mixture.

White Russian for myself

2 oz. Vodka (I use an offbrand)
1 oz. Coffee liqeur (Always Kahlua)
A pinch of Half&Half
Fill with ice cubes

When my wife and I want to enjoy a drink
Vodka Cran Cooler

My wife likes equal parts of vodka and cranberry juice but I go a bit heavy with the vodka.

2 oz. Vodka (Offbrand)
2 oz. Cranberry Juice Cocktail (I like the cocktail, I find 100% doesn't really cut it)
Fill in blender with ice cubes, mix, enjoy.

No better gin than Hendricks. Sapphire will do in a pinch.

Ooooh! This is one of my favorites and can be deadly. I prefer it in a tall glass with lots of crushed ice and fresh-squeezed, pulpy* orange juice. I call it an Amaretto and OJ in a tall glass with lots of crushed ice.

*raises glass to PVDProf for use of his term "pulpy" to describe orange juice as it should be

One 12 oz. can of Coca-Cola. I'll agree with the "not diet, not Pepsi, not knock off brand" line. Gotta be straight up Coca-Cola.

Disarrono (however much you like).

Pour half of the can of Coke into a glass. Pour in Disarrano. Top with the rest of the Coke.

Can also be done with: Vodka (I prefer Lime or Vanilla Vodka and Coke), Jack, Black Velvet, Crown...whatever you like.

juice of one lime
2-3 Tbs simple syrup
10 mint leaves
rum to taste (also tasty with vodka or cachaca)

add all of the above to tall glass of ice
muddle, muddle, muddle, muddle.... and muddle

top off the glass with club soda
stir
mmmmmmmmmm

my version of a purple haze martini.

1 1/2 oz. pomegranate juice ( I prefer pomegranate liquer for a stronger martini)
1 1/2 oz cranberry juice
1 1/2 oz. Hpnotiq
1 1/2 oz blue curacao

1 medium sized lime squeezed into the martini shaker, shake well and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with lime rind.

Take 2 heavy "footed" Martini glasses (not stemmed, but shaped and sized as is a stemmed marini glass) anda liter of (a) Bombay Sapphire or (b) Monopolowa Vodka (made in Vienna from potatoes) and place in deep freeze overnight.

Take a lemon, warm it between your hands (or better yet, between the thighs of an attractive receptive woman - after a couple of these she'll be even more receptive), cut a couple of strips of peel, attempting to minimize the "white".

Think of a vermouth label, picturing it in your imagination, holding it there.

Remove glasses and booze, pouring a hefty double in each glass, twist the lemon peels over the booze, and then rub them about the rims of the glasses, dropping them in or discarding at your option.

Partake!

Hmm... always wondered what else one could do with Disarrono... Usually just had it 'on the rocks' in the SEA PC -Now something new to try ^

SEA WC - they had a list of 'drinks' they offered... on this list, was vermouth! So, I asked, what is vermouth? They answered that it wasn't a drink really and someone messed up by putting it on the list, as its a kind of mix in for Martini's (Which IIRC they don't have a mixer for anyway- so pointless to have vermouth) but I did sample a tiny bit...

Mmm... a white russian- Had one (or two ) on Friday in the SEA PC- good stuff! - A twist the matron offered was to put in some seltzer water to add a little twist- not bad!

Just made this one up myself at Easter (I always have a signature drink when we have company) and it was soooo good....tasted like Hawaiian Punch and was similar to a good Mai Tai...went down WAY too easy!

2 oz. Malibu Rum
2 oz. pineapple juice
2 oz. Cranberry juice

Simple. Obviously you could play with the proportions, and certainly add garnish. I just threw it together at the last minute and was shocked at how great it tasted.

^^ Hendricks is excellent stuff. Tanqueray also goes well, as does Plymouth. Not keen on Saphhire or Gordons.

Very interesting! May I ask how much seltzer water the bartender added?
