Portland, Oregon

This is currently my favorite restaurant in the U.S.:

http://www.simpaticacatering.com/

They only do three meals a week: Friday/Saturday dinner and brunch on Sunday. The dinners are one seating only, fixed menu and family style. The chef gives a presentation about the meal before serving. I've had two of the best meals of my life here, all for about $40 each (not including wine).

South Omaha

Johnny's Restaurant, a local favorite for over 40 years near where the old stockyards were located. US-75 just south of I-80, exit at L Street. Just off the freeway on the west side.

Great steaks, great price/value for the portion size and friendly service. This local gem is the one I recommend whenever asked. It doesn't look like much from the outside but don't judge this book by it's cover.

I guess Dreamland might qualify for the topic of this thread, since in my opinion you certainly could die eating the crappy food at this place!

I'm a pizza guy, so the first two that came to mind in the Boston area were:
1. Santarpio's in East Boston - similar recipe and style to Regina in the north end. This is my personal favorite.
2. The New Brown Jug - it's on the Revere/Chelsea Border when you get off Rte 1 South on 16. Thin crust pizza - very different from Santarpio's but still very good.
Both of these places are total dives, but if you're up for low brow, it's good food.

le domaine de rochevilaine hotel, britany

they offer a 7 course dinner with different wines for each course. i have eaten in a lot of restaurants but this was the best food i have ever had. the bill was about 120 euro each so for a 7 course meal with wine it's quite reasonable.
the hotel is on a rocky cliff overlooking the ocean and is a wonderfully romantic place to stay.

it is useful if you speak french.

Jocko's in Nipomo, CA

This is one of my favorite restaurants. Old-fashioned oak pit BBQ with no sauce. Incredible steaks, lamb chops, beef ribs, and, my favorite, sweetbreads, which are like nothing I have seen outside this part of the country.

I never would have thought that this area had its own mini-cuisine, but it certainly does. There are other similar places nearby -- the area might be defined as central coast cow country of Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, which also happens to be great wine country -- including Far Western and the Hitching Post (two locations, including one of Sideways fame).

Tucson AZ

If you like Mexican food come visit us in TUS! The Sonoran hot dogs you can get from any street corner vendor on the south side of town are great. There's a guy who normally sets up near the airport that I stop by every now and then and I'm not hungry for a good 12 hours after I eat there. For Mexican though, I love Guadalajara Grill,http://ggrill.com/ located at 1730 E. Prince Rd. Dinner for two with drinks usually comes to about $35, and the margaritas are the size of a bowling ball.

In Portland, Or, I love Mother's Bistro and Bar. http://www.mothersbistro.com/ Great comfort food there.

Beaverton, OR Chennai Masala

If you live in or visit Portland, Orgegon area and love Indian food, you must dine at Chennai Masala in Beaverton, OR. They make the best Dosa, and all dishes are very authentic to indian flavors.

A couple from me:

Youskyme Teriyaki
221 NE 104th Ave.
Vancouver, WA

Oak Tree Restaurant
Corner of Atlantic and Lewis River Road/Goerig behind the Chevron (I'm too lazy to look up the address)
Woodland, WA

...so neither one came from my travels...they're just local-for-me places that are good.

Oh, one that DID come from my travels...

Harvester Restaurant
401 W 1st St.
Spangle, WA (about 15 miles south of Spokane, WA off of US 195)

Tony Luke's is certainly becoming a tourist trap though - they're expanding to NYC and I believe they have venues at the Wachovia Center, the Linc, and Citizens Bank Park.

There's a Tony Luke's in Atlantic City too.

Speaking of which:

White House Sub Shop
Arctic & Mississippi Aves.

Google will tell you all you need to know. For a few years it was the highest food number in the Atlantic City/South Jersey Zagat. Seablue beat it out for top honors last year.

Tony's Baltimore Grill
Iowa & Atlantic Avenues

Mario Batali's favorite place in ACY, or so I've heard. Pan pizza that's totally worth the rude staff.

Great Cuban food

I'm in agreement with the two above, but would also make the addition of Ramsi's and Seviche for two more great stops in Louisville Ky.

7 course dinner?

Now I'm afraid to go to France... might become even more obese!

Miya's Sushi in New Haven, CT.

Unbelievably creative cuisine. ^ ^

Personally no matter how good the restaurant is, it is not worth dying for.
