Yellowknife: Bullocks Bistro. This was recently voted the best fish-and-chips joint in Canada, and I'll actually agree. Amazing food & a unique interior make for a memorable (if pricey) dinner.

another one in San Juan. El Hamburger in Old San Juan facing the atlantic. Hole in the wall, hasn't changed since the 40's, and freaking amazing. Cheap too.

I've been watching "Feasting on Asphalt" on the Food Network. Great show that highlights mostly tiny local joints. Last night they showed some tamale places in Mississippi. Man, it made me want to take a road trip.

Portions of the post that previously appeared in this space has been deleted. I would provide you with a reason why, but doing so would likely be against the TOS.

YVR - Opus Elixer

Okay, it is becoming a chain with two hotels and two more planned, but the Opus Elixer is well worth it. Especially the taster menu with wine pairings. Upscale, great service, food of the goods.

a friend worked at Opus lounge on the lower east side of Manhattan... never tried the food but the drinks were OK... the music was way too loud for the small and cramped space couldn't move without bumping into at least three people.

Near La Jolla: Lorna's Italian Kitchen. They make their own bread and it is soooo good!

My favorite dish there is the Tagliatelle Bolognese. Portions are huge, so I always end up with enough for dinner, too. Mmmm!

In Gainesville, Florida, our favorite little Italian place is Pomadoro's - italian owned, italian managed (the manager is from Napoli). Lots of fresh seafood... yum!

Another local place with great home-cooked style food is Conestoga's in Alachua. Huge burgers that actually taste wonderful rather than like sawdust!

For Vietnamese food, there is a place called Saigon in downtown Gainesville that has wonderfully aromatic curries...

Brian's Restaurant, Orange Ave, Orlando, FL
One of my favorite diners anywhere, open for breakfast and lunch, and one of the reasons I return to Orlando even though I moved 1200 miles away and have little reason to return
Other good ones, The Deli Planet near Downtown Orlando, and any location of American Pie Pizza (local chain)

In San Juan
The Burger Joint, Ashford Avenue, Condado, San Juan, PR
I missed In n Out and Five Guys until I tried this place. I'm good now :)

Others in San Juan, Via Appia also in Condado; 311 (Trois Cent Onze) in Old San Juan; Buenos Ayres in Condado and Guaynabo; and countless more that I can't remember.

Spanglish in Old San Juan. Amazing local food. Great portions. Outstanding service by friendly staff. Family owned.

A lot has been said about this place, and some people seem to have issues with it, but on July 19 all I can say is "Oh My Goodness", the brisket and ribs were right on the mark. The place was just humming.

This has been on my list of barbecue destinations for a long time, so it was just awesome to finally get there, and in leaving already longing to return.

Next time you're in town you want to go to Rosedale BBQ for RIBS! Arguably (well, INarguably!) the best ribs in town. Bryants for brisket, yes, but not for ribs.

Rosedale BBQ, on Southwest Trafficway just west of Rainbow.

Binkley's in Cave Creek AZ. If I could I would live at this place!

Just went there for my 20th anniversary (work anniversary) and had the most wonderful meal. Braised beek cheeks, veal tartare, walleye pike - getting walleye fresh in AZ is impossible! Kevin and Amy take such great care of the menu and the diners. They actually personalized the menu for me notating the anniversary!

Speaking of ribs and barbeque .... I really have enjoyed the dryrub ribs at Whole Hog Cafe in Little Rock AR. Yum.... you order how many bones you want and then there are 6 different sauces to add at the table if you want sauce. Really good!:p

Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh Deli Company, in, as you may have guessed, Pittsburgh, PA. A trip to Pittsburgh is not complete w/o a visit to the PDC. Of course, if you want the authentic Pittsburgh experience, Primanti Bros. is not to be missed, either.
