Best steak tartare?

I'd like to ask you where you had your best steak tartare?

Especially I'd like to have some recommendations for Orlando, FL.

Thanks in advance!

Japan is the only place to eat steak tartare. The Kobe beef is perfect for it. However it is expensive (from USD 200 to USD 500 depending on the restaurant). In the US I would only make it at home and not trust any restaurant to get this right, IMHO. Actually a good carpaccio is often more satisfying and has more of the "essence of beef" flavour, but that is equally hard to find. This kind of food is simply not available in Orlando, the closest would be the restaurant at The Atlantic in FLL (which is ex-NYC).

Ahem, while Japan is definately a top destination for beef, there is a reason why Japanese travellers flock to Korea to eat yakiniku.

My best experience with this dish dad taught me to love has been in the SW agricultural heartland of Korea. There is a somewhat hard to find but renowned beef specialist in Damyang just outside of Gwangju that serves amazing Kobe style meat.

And their preferred starter is an equally amazing steak tartare adjusted to the Korean love of spiciness. I got the impression they only serve this on slaughter days to ensure absolute freshness. Add a glass or two of soju and the typical Korean side dishes and life is bliss ( until the bill comes ).

Jeanty @ Jacks on Sacramento Street in San Francisco does a very respectable beef tartare IMHO.

One to stay away from also IMHO is at a cafe called Dome on the north side of Rue St. Antoine, near St. Paul Metro stop, in the Marais in Paris. Similar to one of the posters above, I spent half of a 3 day long weekend from San Francisco to Paris on or within spitting distance of a loo a couple of years ago.

A place in NY called Cafe Un, Deaux, Trios (which I am sure I spelled wrong) is quite good. I had a wonderful steak tartare in Montpellier 2 weeks ago at a place called Le Vieux Four. Actually a very nice restaurant all around. Not as good as Le Jardin du Sens in the same town, but about 1/8 the price. Also, Im thinking Orlando - steak tartare, nah.

best steak tartare?

Great steak tartare in Bharni's, a classic shophouse ground floor on Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok, named after the late owner's daughter. Owner worked as chef in France before returning and starting his own shophouse restaurant and girl's dormitory! Always high quality meals for ridiculously low prices. And for dessert, varieties of ice cream like corn and durian! Plus great apple pie and banana fritters!
