Oh. Then to stay in budget you'd want the Fine Oak 15 because the guys who deliver charge more $$$.

Seems these guys will ship to MS.

Oh, oops. Didn't notice that.

Then again, I also missed your post about already buying/shipping a bottle of Macallan Fine Oak 15 so clearly this is not my day.

Oban 14 year old.

You're a little late to the party, but this is a good recommendation. At least in my book.

For others who look at this thread in the future...another vote for Macallan (first) and Oban (second). YMMV, but those are my preferences! ^

I prefer the Oban 14, but mostly because it costs half as much as the Macallan and the distillery has a nicer view at sunset. Plus in the summer the waitresses at the fish restaurant on the docks below the Oban distillery are cute and friendly.

OMNI Clinic: Single Malt Scotch

Bunnahabhain 18! $120 and everybody loves it. Smooth, complex but not too peaty/smoky.

Dalwhinnie is my particular favourite.
These people ship.

I'm a little late to the table here too, but had the pleasure of living within driving distance of a decent bar in Knoxville that featured over 150 scotches; Boyd's Jig & Reel. They let me keep notes on a tasting list and kept it for me behind the bar. I was probably 30 or so into the list before I moved to Panama City and haven't found a similar bar here. One great feature at Boyd's is the ability to buy your scotch one ounce at a time - that makes a pricy scotch a little more affordable. On the other hand, it leaves you wanting more. Mrs BamaVol set limits since I do the driving - 1 ounce servings allows for more tastings per visit.

I downloaded an older version of the list (sans notes) to see what I could remember.

I am drinking an Auchentoshen 12 year right now at home. Just okay, but pretty good for its price point (I think around $30). Macallen has been a favorite for years. I tried the 25 year and practically had an orgasm. My favorite of the bunch has been Highland Park. I tried 12, 15 and 18 year scotches and liked their 12 year best. Glenrothes was very nice. The worst I can recall was Cardhu. It was the saltiest scotch I've ever tasted.

I know several have already mentioned Talisker...but as with many malts the pricing has shot up in the last year or two. Fortunately I was able to find the 18YO online for $80 (plus not so cheap shipping of ~$20.) If anyone is interested I'm happy to share the link. I've never had the 18 before due to the price always being well over $100, so I'm really looking forward to it.

Tried a new one this week, Ballentine's Finest. It was free at a Hilton Executive Lounge I was at and it was better than I was expecting ^

A Ballantine's 17 year old was one of the "101 Whiskies to Try Before You Die". Most of them were single malt scotches, but the odd bourbon, rye or Irish whisky was among them. Cute book by Ian Buxton". I think one of my kids grabbed it off a bargain table.

That's s good price. I paid about that wholesale (no shipping) and could only get 3 or 4 bottles/year.
