I'm glad to see some love for Springbank in this thread. As a bartender at a restaurant with a decent single malt selection (40+ bottles), after tasting them all, Springbank 10 year was my favorite. I even preferred it to the Springbank 15 year and the real expensive stuff (Macallan 25, et al).

Thanks

The Oban 14 was one I was considering.

Oban is quite nice. I'm also a Macallan drinker, and Oban is a good second.

Glenrothes is great too.

Recomend a scotch?

I'm in the market for a new bottle since running out. :(

I like Speyside and Highland malts...Macallan 18 is one of my favorites. I like Oban as well, and Glenrothes. Can anyone recommend something under $50?

I know this might make me a Communist, but I really don't like the Islay malts I've tried.

You might try the Springbank 10 that some here have recommended. It is distilled in Campbeltown.

Not my favorite either, but the best among these I've found to be Caol Ila. Very smooth with only hints of the Islay detractions.

I don'tknow how much it costs in the States but Talisker from Skye is hard to beat.

Caol Ila is my fav, and avaiable at a very good price in litre bottles in Whisky's of the World at Heathrow.

What about The Glenlivet and Glenfiddich? I'm curious if you've tried them. They aren't my favorites but will do in an emergency. Like you, I am also out of scotch, but I will probably stick with The Macallan.

I picked up some of the Kirrkland 20 yr. last night.

It's a bit fruity for my taste but will certainly get the job done.

Anyone know how to get a hold of the Kirkland 20 if you live in a state like NC that doesn't allow Costco to sell hard liquor? I can order through places like Bevmo in California that will ship to NC. Locally I have to buy from the ABC store which doesn't have a great selection.

Kirkland Signature is Costco's private label (not just for Scotch Whisky). I doubt that any other stores carry it.

It's hard enough to find it in the warehouses that can sell it.

I've had them before. Yes, they're fine but I prefer Macallan. I wound up getting a bottle of Glenmorangie 12 sherry cask. I debated between port and sherry casks but decided I probably like sherry already given my stated preferences.

Trying my Glenmorangie now. It's rather delightful. Thanks to whoever suggested it.

-Write your state legislator
-Drive to another state and bring some back

That's pretty much it. Believe me; I feel your pain--I live in PA, where even option #2 above is illegal. :(

I grew up in Pennsylvania and remember the state stores. You have my sympathy. :(
