What's Freebird? (Other than the song people yell out at concerts.)

If I recall correctly, I think there was one in Austin (and maybe in College Station?), sort of Gringo Hippie versions of Chipotle, non-Mexican burritos (and "Burritos" are certainly not Mexican at all, but a US invention for the palates of GenX 'Merkins attempting to put themselves in touch with the Hippie era).

Refritos instead of black beans? There writes an FTer with a dulled palate. Even the mildly seasoned black (turtle) beans of Chipotle surpass most available (canned) refritos. ....and neither beats classic homemade Refritos made with black beans cooked with enough olive oil and garlic.

Little beats those fasting, meatless Friday nights, when dinner was a bowl of "Moors and Christians" (with one or more of a variety of chile-based condiments).

There is a Freebirds in Austin not too far from the UT campus. I ate there once, didn't think it was that special.

I could probably eat two Chipotle burritos in one sitting, but I tend to remind myself to eat less while there because the food is very high in calories.

Have to admit I loved Chipotle and their whole concept. Now, one of those burritos was enough for half a day, especially with the extra guacamole. ;)

One is my limit. But, I agree... the guacamole is great!

Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of the guacamole there; too sweet for my taste. And black beans aren't my thing either, but they've had pinto beans available for a while, at least 'round these parts.

OOH, cold shot!

The best refritos are made with lard not olive oil (only Texans can be so close to good food and not realize it).

Sure I could eat 2, no problem. I like the food but they are tight on not having self service condiments and charging for salsa.

Yeah, I take issue with that also. At least Baja fresh has a salsa bar.

A new Chipotle opened up near me. I wandered over and to my delight they were offering free food and drink. I picked up two burritos, chips, and guac. I now know that I could eat two.

There is a Chipotle at IAD a little ahead of the international gate used by Qatar Airways and Virgin lounge.

There is also a Potbelly.

How do you Chipotle?

It's lunch time! Time for an online order so I don't have to wait in line.

My favorite order = Burrito Bowl (+ tortilla on the side)
+ 1/2 white rice + 1/2 brown rice
+ 1/2 Carnitas + 1/2 Barbacoa
+ light black beans
+ corn salsa
+ mild salsa (aka pico de gallo)
+ sour cream
+ cheese
+ lettuce

I have yet to try a quesorrito, but that's on my bucket list.

bowl - brown rice, black beans, chicken, heavy dose of cilantro
