I didn't know you get get extra cilantro, I'll have to remember that for next time.

For me:
Bowl
Brown rice (not too much)
Lots of black beans
Chicken or carnitas or occasionally sofritas or barbacoa
Corn and medium salsa
Sour Cream
Cheese
Lettuce if I'm dining in.

I didn't either, and I love cilantro. The things you learn on FT...

Maybe I should have just titled this thread, "How do you build your Chipotle burrito bowl?"

pseudoswede Oct 28, 2015 2:10 pm

If I get my Chipotle in a bowl, it will be a salad. But most of the time it's...

Burrito
White rice
Black beans
Steak
Half corn salsa
Half green chile
Little cheese
Little lettuce

I've only eaten at Chipotle a handful of times but I never had a meal I really enjoyed. Not sure if I'm ordering the wrong thing. Open to suggestions! I've typically just ordered a burrito and a side of chips and guac. I've adjusted the burrito by swapping up the proteins, dropping the beans, etc but it still isn't what I'm looking for. Can't place my finger on it. The guac kind of disappoints me too because I find it too plain/bland.

Next visit I might have to end up trying a bowl, maybe a salad, or a set of tacos instead.

Love the online ordering to skip the line tho.

Whenever I do order the guac on the side, I have to add some salt to brighten up the flavor, because like you said it's on the bland side. I also like getting a side of the mild (pico) to stir in to make the guac more chunky.

I'm wondering if you're suffering from not enough meat or lack of melty cheese. Perhaps extra meat or a quesorrito would be something to try?

How do you Chipotle?

Salad - esteak, fresh and a little green salsa, onions and peppers, pinto beans, cheese, honey lime vinaigrette, side of guacamole. One of my favorite salads anywhere.

I like your guac ideas.
I'm pretty sure it's not a lack of meat and cheese tho.

Everything is bland at Chipotle. Once was enough for me.

Chicken burrito fajita style, or chicken soft tacos

w/black beans, little bit of rice, cheese and extra sour cream. mild salsa fresca and tomatillo salsa

beachmouse Oct 28, 2015 10:56 pm

Tacos- chicken, guac, double grilled veggies, whatever salsa they claim is hottest in order to try to give it some taste intensity.

I started to like Chipotle more once I learned to leave off the sour cream and cheese because all they did was add calories without adding anything remotely resembling additional flavor.

Though if it's an option, I'll generally go for Tijuana Flats instead.

TF is great because it has a much more varied menu, but only about 50 locations, mostly in Florida, where Chipotle has something like 1700 nationwide. I have a choice because the two are almost across the street from each other about 1.5 miles from my house, but most people don't have the TF option.

More direct competitors would be Moe's and Qdoba. I'm not a Moe's fan, but I do like Qdoba.

if you care about value for money, always get tortilla with bowl (free), and do half-half meat (two meats, half portion each but they usually give more, no extra $)

Fortunately/unfortunately, I have a great & cheap mexican restaurant 2 blocks from my house. Chipotle can't compete with it at all.
