I can't think of much that is more unappetizing that a sub from Wal-Mart sitting in a case for several days. And I don't see how you can call such a sub "fresh." If it's just made, it's fresh made.

It's "fresh" in that the meat isn't spoiled.

Hope Grandma BamaVol is doing better.
Our WalMart usually has a decent selection of fresh subs that are made fresh at least a few times/week. A fresh made sub is prepared the same day, at best just before, or within a couple of hours before consumption. A sub made with fresh ingredients, does not necessarily constitute beeing fresh the next day. A competitor to Subway reduces the prize to 50% advertising items as "fresh made yesterday" A fresh made sub, using spoiled meat, is not only dangerous for the consumer, but also illegal  |
It's been a long time since I've been to Subway. I'm lucky to have a couple of good sandwich shops around and Jimmy John's and Firehouse are always good as well. The Publix deli also makes very good sandwiches.

Eating a Jimmy Johns tuna sub with my left hand as I type with my right. It's okay, and I agree that Subway tuna is possibly the best thing on the menu, although I think that's true most places so I may have a pro-tuna bias.

I am not the pickiest eater in general, and have found tuna and meatball to be ok subs there.

If Potbelly and Subway are at all close to each other, I'll choose Potbelly every time.

Easy to say, but around here Subway locations outnumbers Potbelly about 10,000 to 1.

I see the pictures on the advertisement and thus am always disappointed at Subway.
The best sub sandwichs I get are at a small Italian Deli near my out-of-state relatives. On my way to the flight home, I stop by and get a sandwich from them - prosciutto, salami, sharp provolone, peppers, tomato, etc. Then I eat it on the plane under the watchful and jealous eyes of my fellow passengers. I swear I could buy a dozen of them , sell them on the plane, and pay for my return trip. :-) |

If I'm in a hurry and/or in unfamiliar surroundings, I'll take a Subway veggie over anything wrapped in plastic at the local supermarket or 7-11 or anything from McDonald's.
I will choose a Quizno's over a Subway (if I have that choice) because the bread is a bit better. |

When I get a sub from Subway, I usually have a tuna sub. Subway's tuna is delicious. I add lettuce, black olives, and mustard to my tuna sub.

Sounds like a good combo but I'd replace the mustard with mayo.

It's always weird how different countries value tuna at Subway, in Finland it's premium sub, in Sweden, Germany and UK it's a regular and in the US at least here in Miami/Orlando you can get a 6" for $4 as a promo item.

Same here. Mustard does not belong with tuna. Mayo belongs with tuna.
Mayo on a tuna salad sub is redundant. There's already plenty in the tuna salad. |

Firehouse is the nastiest sub place ever. I got a free coupon for a medium sub in the mail and used it and the sub was literally the driest thing ever.

Apologize to Your Kidneys' Day
I had an ok subway sandwich in Osaka. It was shrimp and avocado, IIRC.
I don't recall minding subway every now and then many years ago, before I noticed that awful smell ominpresent at US locations. |

The only thing I smell is their bread baking. It doesn't seem awful to me. Unfortunately, the taste doesn't live up to the promise of the aroma.
The veggies are always fresh, though. |
I can't find the clip, but Jim Gaffigan likens Subways to standing in a humid room filled with dirty, sweaty towels. :D

I'm fine with Subway but prefer Jersey Mike's.

Subway isn't my first choice but there is some serious Subway hatred on here. And I think their bread is ok--7 grain wheat. But I do love a Jersey Mike's. Nothing comes close to a Godmother sandwich at Www.baycitiesitaliandeli.Com Fortunately or unfortunately they are in Santa Monica which is a schlep or I would be there daily. The bread is in a class by itself. |

Had a jersey mikes today just to confirm my feelings. It was hella good. I love the oil/vinegar/herb combo. I had a roast beef & turkey & bacon. The bread was really fresh as were the veggies. I'm a jersey mike's gal--not going to doubt myself anymore.
