Dinner Suggestions for Munich and Salzburg?
My wife and I are making a quick January trip. We like authentic restaurants with some genuine terroir and very good food, more than scene places.
We are equally happy in fancy rooms and local pub type places, but love great meals based on the local specialties.

I haven't had dinner in Salzburg during to festival performance times, but a good standby is the Cafe Sacher in the hotel of the same name.

They also have a famous dessert that you have to order with your appetizer in order for it to be cooked to order for you. I forget what the dessert was... my brother-in-law had it.

any good casual dining recs for Munich?
I'll be visiting soon with a friend, and Tantris looks just like his kind of thing from the website, but I'd also love to hear suggestions for some good but less pricey places.

If you like Thai food, there is a VERY GOOD Thai restaurant. It is one of the best Thai restaurants I've ever been to. Reservations are definitly suggested as this place fills up quickly. It is very close to the Viktuallenmarkt. The address is Utzschneiderstrasse 6 Munich 80469.

For good informal food in Munich, I really like the pork products
purveyors ... Haxnbauer, for sure, also Nurnberger Bratwurstgloeckl
am Dom; but where else to get the full experience but at one of
the brewery restaurants - Augustinerkeller, Spaten Haus, and so
on.
Surprisingly, I had a couple excellent vegetarian meals there:
loved Prinz Myshkin, on Hackerstrasse and Cafe Ignaz near
Josephsplatz (great mushroom-flavored dishes but, as I recall,
be wary of some of the overly healthy tasting pastries).

We had a highly enjoyable dinner there the night we arrived in Munich. What was especially charming was that the waitress actually knew NO english.
The site is lovely. A real respite from the city.

In Munich, we love the Austernkeller for excellent seafood (lobster thermidor to die for!), Weisses Brauhaus, Spatenhaus, Zum Durner (sp?) & just hanging out at the Viktualienmarkt, having a weisswurst & beer & people-watching. My favorite place in Munich! Have fun in one of my favorite cities in the world!

It was a fabulous dinner and one of the waiters was a dead ringer (DEAD RINGER!!!) for my brother. Kind of made me feel at home.

I just pulled their business card out and it appears that they also have a website at www.stadtkrug.at
Enjoy! Both Sazlburg and Munich are near the top of my list of cities in Munich.
