However, I continue to lobby Rick Malir, co-owner of the excellent Columbus-based City BBQ, to open up an outpost in Pittsburgh. He's now got locations in Indianapolis, Raleigh and three shops in Kentucky.

Salt Lick at Terminal A of DFW was completely disappointing... Learn me to try airport bbq
Pecan Lodge was good not necessarily as great as it's been made out to be. The brisket was the best of the bunch while ribs were good as were the cheese jalapeno sausage. The regular was ok.

Otherwise, Google is finding a few places with the word "smokestack" in them, but they don't look upscale in the way that Jack Stack's is.

Anyway, I'd say Q39 is the best upscaleish bbq in town.
Jack Stack is a pleasant experience and quite good food:
when the burnt ends are nice and fatty, they are among
the best I've had. Be forewarned, though, that the term
"burnt ends" has undergone quite a metamorphosis - you
can even get ham "burnt ends" or even turkey some places.
As far as airport bbq goes, my advice would be "just say
no," but then when I've got the Q DTs, sometimes I don't
follow my own advice. I have had tolerable brisket at
Salt Lick at the airport, but never approaching goodness
of any level.

Maple Block Meat Co.. Or When L.A. Hipsters Do 'Cue
Had lunch here the other day. The place looks pretty cool, big beer and Wine bar indoor/outdoor seating.
Everything was very tasty. I had the three meat platter which came with 1 slice of brisket, one spare rib one (house made) sausage link and two sides (I had Mac&Cheese and Coleslaw) served with a tiny cup of house made pickled vegetables. Price-$21
That is very expensive for tasty but not remarkable food served in rather small portions. They would be laughed out of town in Austin or KC!
But they are getting good press so I expect them to stay open awhile.

In addition to Freedman's as violist suggests, try Brown's BBQ on South Lamar. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays, but open from 11 AM to 7 PM Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and then from 11 AM to 11 PM on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
