I vote for Brooks in Denver. Though it has gone through somewhat of a decline in recent years, it is still the best NY Strip I have ever had.
I liked Gene & Georgetti's in Chicago (but not as good as Brooks) and was disappointed in the Original Morton's of Chicago (also in Chicago). |
I've been most disappointed with The Palm in LA (so bad I'm unlikely to try another Palm) and Manny's in Minneapolis.
I largely find that if you go to any of the high-end places, the steak is likely to be delicious, and almost everyone has a wine list adequate for my tastes. Therefore, I often find that the appetizers, salads, sides, and desserts really make or break the place, and separate the good from the excellent. Places that have salads/apps/sides/desserts that I crave get my vote. To that end, my top 3 steakhouses are Dickie Brennan's, Del Friscos, and Emerli's Delmonico. Delmonico might be my favorite -- get the mushroom and tasso ham pasta appetizer (when they have it -- otherwise the New Orleans style BBQ shrimp is excellent; the spinach salad with warm bacon dressing, fried mozarella, etc.; the truffle/parmesan chips; and the banana foster ice cream pie. Oh, and a bone-in ribeye. |

Agree with the Prime Rib at Ben Benson's. I sometime even fly to NYC just to eat a steak there. Maredos in Germany is really an insult to beef. If in Germany I love the steaks at Block House. Just a pitty that they stoped serving the Prime Rib :( |

I've been to quite a few of the "best" steakhouses in the US, but for the money I like EB Green's the most. It is rated a top 10 steakhouse in the US and does not disappoint. |
BsAs
I had three more great steak dinners (actually 2 dinners and a lunch) in BsAs last week. My favorite in BsAs is still Campo Bravo (although admittedly last week they weren't the best of the three meals, as they had been before IME), followed by La Brigada (San Telmo). Cabana Las Lilas was the third & still a great meal (as mentioned by others here, and as I'd had there before) but I do prefer the others.

Grill 23 in Boston As far as steakhouses I've eaten at while traveling, I thought both Gibson's in Chicago and Mike Shannon's in St. Louis were top notch (I generally order the filet when I visit a steakhouse for the first time). |
Sir Scott's Oasis in Manhattan, Montana. Not much on decor, but some of the best prime rib you will have sunk your teeth into.
And, it was featured on one of the "Beef ... It's what's for dinner!" commercials. |
Grew up in KC, but the best steak I've ever had was at Cattlemen's in Fort Worth, Texas.

fond memories
Does anyone recall, know if it is still there, in northern nj in the 60's there was a wonderfully traditional steakhouse (complete with Hammond organist at the bar). I think it was called snuckey's, or snookey's, or something like that?

Steve’s Sizzling Steaks 620 Route 17 South Carlstadt, New Jersey It is still in business. |
Mildly surprised that no-one has mentioned Santa Maria del Buen Ayre, a traditional parilla/asado-type place in north-east London.
Easily one of the BEST Argentinian place outside Argentina IMHO - much better than the Gaucho Grill/El Gaucho chain. (those two chains are kinda overpriced IMHO). It's a touch out of the way, but if you have time to kill in London, well worth checking out. |

Best steakhouse in LA
If you're in Los Angeles, try Pacific Dining Car. A classic stop for steaks, and a classy place to dine.
