Best steak in Los Angeles is Mastro's. They have more than one location. The Filet on the bone is mouth wateringly delicious. ^ ^ ^

If you find yourself in silicon valley i'd recommend the Forbes Mills steakhouse in los gatos. Excellent steak from american wagyu cattle with a good wine cellar. Much better than the chain steak houses like Ruth Chris's and Mortons imho.

If you find yourself in Tokyo, stop by the grand hyatt in roppongi hills and have a steak dinner at the Oak Door. Excellent steaks starting with the regular kobe wagyu and going up with 4 other ranchers cattle until you hit the Matsazukaya (sp?). A really marbled cut of beet (and pricey at $200 per steak -sides extra). The chef (Brad) is from Chicago and knows how to cook a good steak. Did a special meat sampling with him, where he served whatever he though was extra special that day. Had some of the best cuts of meat in my life -the wagyu flanksteak from a small island outside tokyo with a side of tomatoes grown in saltwater was absolutely stellar and a memory for life.

Best cut of beef I've ever had. Period. If you're anywhere near the Santa Barbara area, it's worth the 40 min. drive to either. Be sure to get the ostrich appetizer too... then follow with the BBQ artichoke appetizer :D

This is one long thread but I have eaten in steakhouses for more decades then I care to remember.
Peter Luger,Smith and Wollensky.You name it I have probably been there........But Wolfgangs puts out one of the best Porterhouse steaks on the planet.Can't wait to go back when I have hundreds again to blow on a steak dinner :D
They put the lions share of so called great steakhouses to shame that frequently use inferior beef with all the rest of what appears to be the perfect steakhouse settings.
More then a few are featured in this thread :( Not mentioning any names for being flame broiled like my Porterhouse :D
The scent in the air tells you the quality of meat being served the moment you walk in.It is addicting.They have taken much of the legendary Peter Luger formula (including the suppliers) put it in a superior location and setting and take credit cards so you can earn a few measly miles for dinner too.
This way you don't have to carry your personal bank account to dine there :cool: ^ I would like to try a few other things there in the future that also look excellent on the menu.
It would be hard to not order that steak even with the risk of bankrupcy ;)

My personal favorite in New York is Del Frisco's. But the best steaks have always been in Chicago for me. Gibson's, Morton's and especially Chicago Chop House. My all time favorite steak was at a place called Madison's near the United Center. I believe it was mob owned. Shut down for money laundering or somethign to that affect.

You need to try Valdos Restaurant in melbourne, Au. They grow their own beef ( an Angus, Charlea hybrid) and prepare all their own beef. They serve only staeks ( not good for our Vegan friends), but it is superb. All grain fed and dry aged.

I'm a big fan of Ruth's Chris (San Diego, Las Vegas, Indy, & Irvine).

The best I've ever had by far is Kobe beef. I've sampled many restaurants in Kobe, Japan and my favorite is Sakamoto in the San-nomiya area of Kobe. Reservations essential and don't forget your wallet!

But add to my list Jockos, just up the highway from Buellton, in Nipomo. Incredible. And the entire meal, including wonderful central coast wines, won't hit $40/person.

Have a whole rib eye in my freezer, if you manage to come to DC I will throw it on the grill :D

I'm going to Ruth's Chris on Father's Day in Richmond, VA because my dad wants steak for his present. He says they have the best steak he's ever had. I'll report back after I've tried it! ^

Not only the best steak, but perhaps the best restaurant experience I've ever had, was at Berns in Tampa. Not only that, but I thought the price was quite reasonable.

Hugo's Cellar in Las Vegas also is outstanding. Golden Ox and Jess and Jim's in KC were above average, but not as good as advertised.

Frankly, Jim's Steak House and the Lariat Club, both in Peoria, are better than both of them.

Profoundly disappointing was the Tea Steak House in Tea, S.D. Had heard many good things about it, but the steak was not prepared correctly twice (I sent it back the first time), and was mostly fat.

Emeril's Delmonico, The Range and the Golden Steer in LV also warrant a mention.

And when in Canada, I never miss a trip to The Keg.

Partially different experiences-several times- about both Hitching Posts: great wines, average steaks and food.

Rio Alba is the tops based on combination of great steak for relatively reasonable cost.

I couldn't agree more! I am such a fan of Vongerichten and ESPECIALLY Jo Jo, that I went to One & Only Ocean Club just to celebrate new year's eve at his restaurant Dune. This man can do no wrong (Spice Market is an exception) :-D
