Not being able to travel to Beyrut this month, we decided to make the Lebanese-ish experience at home. The Menu consisted of:
Labneh with Maanesh Flatbread, Hummus and Kibbeh Lamb Kafta with rice and Tomato Salad We originally decided on having Baklavas with the final coffees, but our guests surprised us with bringing a Layali Lubnan, topped with chrushed pistachios, ashta and strawberries, so that made it as the formal Dinner Finale. The Lebanese red wine Chateau Musar with the starters and main. The coffee/baklava combo was enhanced with a non-Lebanese digestif |

I have only had Lebanese wine once but was very impressed. I took coworkers to a middle eastern restaurant in JAX. One coworker is in the wine business with his husband back in Belgium. I let him order the wine and it was some of the best I’ve tasted.
Dinner tonight for me will be a roast chicken. Probably my favorite weeknight meal. |

+1 on the Lebanese wine. I'm hopeful that some day a trip there will be in the cards.

Last night I made mushroom, onion and ham risotto. Tonight I made the lemon fennel chicken that I first tried last month. This time I picked a fennel bulb with way more fronds to mince up for the sauce. Leftovers are packed for lunch tomorrow.

My wife had come up with a delicious dinner feast. I had mentioned that the smoked beef risoles from the other week, would be better with some thinly sliced pork. She made it tonight, and it was delicious!
I thought that was all I was getting, and then she brings in a huge bowl of rendang, with a stack of toasted paratha, plus some beautiful freshly sliced pineapple. I’m almost sad, because I was hoping to eat some tasty mango cheesecake we got yesterday, but there’s no hope of that if I eat these goodies. |

Cheese nachos
beef kebab chicken kebab platter of raw vegetables (radish cucumber celery & red bell pepper) platter of raw herbs (mint cilantro & basil) chimichurri sauce guacamole |
Romaine salad with crumbled gorgonzola, dried cranberries, candied walnuts and yogurt dressing
Chicken tortilla soup (from Costco--the bomb) with crushed doritos, shredded cheese and sour cream. I really wish I had some cilantro. |
it’s my child’s birthday and Super Duper carryout was chosen even though I can cook this stuff way better.
double cheeseburger garlic fries chocolate milkshake (Strauss soft-serve - the shops only carry Strauss ice cream) cheeseburger fries garlic fries we have very nice desserts so I only had garlic fries. It’s just micro planed Parmesan or gruyere cheese & garlic and I can just shred cheese on oven fries myself. the fries are so adequately greasy that the grease ran from the food through the paper bag and onto my lap. They probably use beef lard to keep the fries crispy. I had chocolate cake with white frosting and sprinkles for dessert. I’m very tempted to have a corn cherry scone and water now for another dessert.

i really haven’t investigated this but tbh $10.99 is high for me when I’m accepting $4.99 on Haagen daaz at regular price. I rarely eat ice cream at home so when I buy it, I will generally buy premium brands if on sale at $3.99 and down, else I’ll accept a different sugar. As it is, we have enough sugar at home that I could stop buying ice cream & other cookies etc for myself for 2020 and I’ll have more than enough of other things to enjoy for dessert. |

i can’t believe how much the Jeni’s ice cream costs at a store. Does it actually taste that great? This Ice Cream Costs $12 A Pint. Here’s Why It’s Worth It Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams combine top-notch ingredients with a socially responsible vision of how to do business. The results? Delicious. Jeni Britton Bauer’s ice cream is a hit thanks to painstakingly sourced ingredients and carefully crafted flavors. And unlike many of her competitors, she makes the base from scratch. She also goes to extreme lengths to ensure quality, such as baking cakes herself for her pineapple upside-down cake frozen yogurt. |
Cheese grits and a bean salad. I hated grits growing up, but that was because the only ones I ever had were instant grits hydrated with water. We use a pressure cooker (1c grits : 3c water : 1c whole milk) and then stir in a cup or so of good cheese (with a bit of sodium citrate to keep everything emulsified and smooth).
The bean salad was chickpeas, edamame, and black beans with diced bell peppers, serrano peppers, and cilantro in a dressing of olive oil, yuzu, lime juice, cumin, and Malaysian Baba chili powder. |

One of my favorite restaurants has a bacon wrapped pork tenderloin, served with Mexican street corn and cheese grits. Heaven. |

I loved our cheese pizza so much - it was the first time that I didn’t use a rolling pin for the dough and I only used my hands and some flour to avoid stickiness. I really can’t see myself justifying the return to any pizzeria.

I always loved roasted pork shoulder (schaufele) when dining in Germany. At some point I need to open my German cook book and start reading it! I last read it around 2002 but it should theoretically be with our other cookbooks which are rarely used since I just use my phone...

Speaking of ice cream, I've recently discovered Tillamook. I've enjoyed their cheese but had never tried the ice cream. My goodness, that is outstanding ice cream for a non super premium brand. So far, I've had vanilla, strawberry and today we bought Malted Moo Shake (vanilla malt flavor with chocolate chunks). Tonights dessert. So delicious and creamy. |

I’ve been eating the Tillamook ice cream for 7 years or so. They had some sort of berry flavor, maybe Huckleberry, that was my favorite. I haven’t had any lately, I think they have to fight for freezer space at retailers. Dreyers and Breyers are always featured on alternate weeks.

I was in line for a cashier today at Ralph's...the line to wait conveniently runs right in front of the ice cream case.
On an impulse I bought a pint of KROGER brand Brown Butter Bourbon Truffle ice cream (on sale $1.99). Don't laugh...it is really, really good. I would absolutely buy it again. Big chunks of truffles and super creamy with lots of brown butter carmely stuff. I am very impressed. Private Selections brand. You're welcome. |

When I was a kid, my uncle worked for Beatrice Foods (Meadow Gold), selling ice cream. He would always bring it to us when he was in town (he supplied my other uncle's grocery store a block away). A day seldom goes by that I don't have a dish, an ice cream novelty or some other dessert a la mode. |
