Wow! 2 pints and wasted. Well, glad you got a ride. :) Maybe a different definition of "wasted" here. 3 pints of 7% will definitely give me a buzz, and I won't drive until some time has passed, but it would take a LOT more than that to get me "wasted".

I spotted a new-to-me Mexican restaurant while running errands the other day, and the menu looked great so we decided to order takeout last night. There were a few iffy reviews, but I heavily discount any COVID-era bad reviews. Big mistake. Food arrived about an hour after the estimated arrival, order was incomplete and somehow my lamb barbacoa, chicken tinga and baja-style fish tacos all tasted the same (plus bland, dry and lukewarm). I didn't even try the elotes, which was a sad looking ear of corn with a side of crumbled cheese (none of the sauces). :(

omg a dui is very serious. I never drive when I know I’ll have alcohol. |

Not even one beer or one glass of wine over a long period of time and with food? No one is saying that a dui is not serious---the comments are that most of us wouldn't call ourselves "wasted" after 2 beers and a lot of food.

I bought a bit too much - 1.2 lbs for two. I now realize that there is an upper and a lower filet. I’ve caught one but never cleaned one. I have permission to serve fish any night I want to cook it as long as I cook it outside. Sides were grilled asparagus and Caribbean rice. Mrs BV didn’t like the dark meat under the lateral line. A worker at Buddy Gandy Seafood once told me she likes her fish to remind her that it lived it’s life in the sea with every bite. I think I agree with her. |
Osso buco and air fryer cauliflower with brown butter
I've come to the sad realization that I like osso buco more in theory than reality. I feel as if I spend half the meal trying to separate meat from fat and the other half being annoyed that there is food stuck in my teeth. I suggested that Mr. CE save it for when we have company who would appreciate it or when I have other dinner plans. |

I end up with everything stuck in my teeth but I do love the flavor of osso bucco so that would be worth it. I am debating whether to buy some short ribs--that's a real tooth sticker.

Good on you for being a responsible drinker. |

I wouldn't blame you. I'm not a big drinker either. I do buy alcohol for cooking or for gifting (and occasionally for other special purpose times)... but in general I don't need much to start getting the buzz. I really only drink once a year out of the house (slava... Feast of the Patron Saint of my serbian friend). Single shot glass of plum brandy. And we haven't done it in the last two years because of covid.

It's better than when I visit China and they want to do baijiu shots and cheers to people. That's deadly. |

Most beers? I've never seen a beer that strong. :) But I try not to chance it. I usually don't feel it, but usually shortly after I get there is the first "service" and we usually have WAY too much heavy food so that could be it. The cookies and treats help too.

Generally, a shot of hard liquor contains about the same amount of alcohol as in a beer. However, Šljivovica is typically about 100 proof, which may be higher than others. If homemade Šljivovica, it is likely even higher than that. :D

Don't remind me. A I have a croation friend who does homemade... I took the shotglass he offered and couldn't talk for a good chunk of the rest of the afternoon. :( After that, I've refused sampling his wares unless it was the weekend. I've had 110 proof baijiu before but it never burned like this on the way down.

Not that it's a thing now, but professionally I came of age during the era of the "Martini lunches" and I can't recall any of us who had even remotely been impaired in the slightest when we returned to the office. Blast from the past, regarding fish, I used to have most of my fish intake at Aqua's.

Tonight I just tossed some broccoli and orecchiette with garlic and red pepper flakes, then added cheese. It was ok - quick and easy and had lots of vegetables, which I've sorely needed lately. It was sort of an experiment, and I think it really needed some sausage or meatballs in it. Maybe next time.

My father in law has company so I offered to make dinner for everyone. I made a massive crockpot of chili. There was shredded aged cheddar to top it and squishy fresh Italian bread to sop up the juices. I never got around to taking a picture. I also missed smelling it all day while it cooked at his house.
