Blah. No organic cherries at the grocery today and we ran out so I sigh-bought california cherries at $5.99/lb. blah. My spouse will eat them but I’ll eschew them. Chances are high that 1/3 to 1/2 of the bag will be tossed after I find organic cherries.
well maybe I can freeze the cherries and then bake them instead of dried cherries into scones. You won't eat non-organic cherries at all--ever? You are not exactly a health nut with the rest of the stuff that you eat so that seems kind of funny. |

You will probably need to adjust your recipe if you use fresh/frozen cherries as they will release a lot of moisture into the batter.

I caved and bought a bag of non-organic cherries at Safeway. $1.97 “club” price. Not club magazine, alas.
regular price is $5.99/lb |
Safeway has a $2.48 promo on rainier and regular cherries. I had bought rainier cherries on Tuesday for $8.99/lb (NOT organic) and they were delicious. I’m excited to try the Safeway $2.48 ones because if they’re also delicious, then I’ll be thrilled to get more.

Where were they from? Farmer's Market cherries yesterday were already looking haggard. It is quite late in the local season.

It might say USA but I think we know where supermarket chains get their produce :-)

Color me naive, but I would assume any fresh cherries currently being sold at a local Safeway would be from the West coast.

Whole Foods...$4.99 for organic. Yes, it is a bit late.

Yes. My assumed premise was if they aren't still from California, they are probably from Washington.
i just figure that they come from the vendor With lowest bid...

that’s a great price. I quit going to WF in late March because of the queues to enter, which indicated that the shop was adequately crowded. Every time I’ve driven past a WF, it’s had a queue so I simply quit trying to go to WF! |

Mine has a line because they limit the #of customers like trader joe does. They are often out of sale items which is sometimes the only reason i am there. So annoying .

Shop-Rite has cherries listed in their sales Ad at $1.99,lb but all markets have been sold out for the last week. Tomorrow starts a new week of sales so I am expecting that they will suddenly get a new shipment of cherries @ $3.99 lb Of course no-raincheck policy is now in effect at Shop-Rites
|
Safeway (Albertsons) also discontinued their rain checks. Sad!
i bought 3 more pounds of rainier cherries at club price $2.48/lb this morning. still delicious. |
Finally went to an “Asian” supermarket for the first time in ages. In this case, it was Kukje and they’re a korean grocer. Most products were korean but thankfully they had Japanese Kit Kat products!
i saw STRAWBERRY CHERRIES for the first time ever in my life. Also saw the new trendy rose strawberries. Their pricing seemed high for Rainier at $8.99/lb because I assumed that they would be less than a more western grocer in sf. Then I got sticker shock when I saw their boneless short ribs at $25.99/lb because I’m not used to paying so much for meat unless maybe it’s a fancy steak. Their actual rib eye was maybe $14.99/lb and I’m already long steak so I didn’t get any. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...59e643162.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...bfaa9879d.jpeg |
