This may sound weird to some people but my wife and I usually swap dishes (including the plates) after eating half, unless we're both having the same thing or we are having something that the other dislikes.

Its all about a basic friendly connection between two beings. You can offer them politely and lovingly. There is no fixed words or gestures to address.

My wife of 25 years (GRHS) and I always did this, unless avocados or cilantro were involved. I tasted nearly twice as many dishes as I would have otherwise.

My sister and I often split a plate as she doesn't eat much and I could stand to back off on how much I eat. Great for the wallet too

For spouses, who propably share the same oral germ pool, I don't see a problem. I personally would not have a fork/spoon, previously in another random person's mouth entering my own. Although not a major risk, I'd hate myself waking up with an outbreak of oral herpes, or something else I don't want
