My wife of 25 years (GRHS) and I always did this, unless avocados or cilantro were involved. I tasted nearly twice as many dishes as I would have otherwise.
For spouses, who propably share the same oral germ pool, I don't see a problem. I personally would not have a fork/spoon, previously in another random person's mouth entering my own. Although not a major risk, I'd hate myself waking up with an outbreak of oral herpes, or something else I don't want
