Speaking of New Zealand, we just had a new place in Durham open up called Burger Bach which is a New Zealand inspired gastropub. I went for lunch today and I was really impressed: http://theburgerbach.com/

I wonder if it's inspired by New Zealand in the same way that the Outback Steakhouse is inspired by Australia - ie the food has no resemblance at all to that of the inspirational country :)

Yes, I think you're right about that. A hangi at your table would be pretty novel way to do NZ food.:D |

Funny my son who went to U of AKL really liked Burger Fuel. We went to visit him and tried it and it was good, not great. I went back to NZ for a cruise and took two of his friends out to dinner at BF. it seemed much better in Nov. 2014 then it did in April 2012.

Probably quoted earlier in the thread but I have found the burgers from 'Burger & Lobster' here in London to be spectacular...

Black Label Burger at Minetta Tavern is absolutely divine. Another one that's a bit under the radar is the burger on the menu at Montmartre, a French spot on 18th Street and 8th Avenue in NYC. I have trouble deciding between those two which one has the better burger...both are absolutely incredible renditions of the burger.

Rocky's Crown Pub in San Diego. No frills, nothing fancy. Just a damn good burger.

And Minetta could be a close third! |
I've had several people tell me recently that the Whole Foods grocery serves the best burger they've ever had.

I am by no means a food connoisseur (in the sense of having received an education in cooking or otherwise). The above was just my humble opinion after having tried many burgers from various countries. I do agree with that place being slightly overpriced, but the again, it“s London. Have you by any chance been to Bukowski“s grill in Boxpark (Shoreditch)? Definitely cheaper for GBP 8 and above but quite good (again, in my opinion):) |

May I ask where in London they serve decent ones in your opinion?
http://www.visitlondon.com/things-to...=tweet-ongoing That's (partly) some more affordable Top10.. (Five Guys made it onto #3) |
The Broadmoore burger at Then Golden Bee pub Colorado Springs. Hands down the best I have ever had!

Koa's Seaside Grill on the waterfront in Lahaina, Maui serves a really great double burger. Tastes best seated over the water looking at the whales playing in the channel between the islands.

But, with a name like OB one I'm surprised you didn't live on the other side of the river and frequent Hodad's. ;) |

Best burger in the world
Sorry if it's been mentioned before but one of my favorites chefs is Sean Brock. I think his burger at Husk in Charleston SC is phenomenal. It's nothing fancy (ie not wagyu no foie no truffle or anything) and it uses American cheese (sacred bleu) but it is darn tasty.

You boys are making me want to visit. I'll be in SD next week, but I'm taking the Amtrak in and will be carless. It is a bit of a ways from my hotel.
Unfortunately there really isn't anything else of interest near it unless you want to walk around the bay. UberX is really cheap though. |

Even though the stacking order seems a bit odd, I have to admit, that is a d@mn fine looking burger, and I thank you for posting that picture. Do you grill over a gas flame or a wood flame?
I have a lava grill in my kitchen which is used for steaks, burgers, chops, kebabs, satay, koftas, fish, flatbreads etc. http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...B04C43374D.jpg http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...4340F9764C.jpg http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...CA71F19EF8.jpg http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...psmiavcqze.jpg http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/t...psmavl5vnj.jpg |

The best burger in the world is the medium rare bacon cheeseburger with a slice of onion, some ketchup and some barbecue sauce that is in my mouth at any given moment.
Bacon, I have come to realize, is the truth. And when placed underneath a good cheddar atop a cheeseburger, it is the ultimate truth. Truth is beauty. Beauty is truth. A good bacon cheeseburger is both. |

A good bacon cheeseburger is both. The reason why I stack my cheese under the meat rather than on top is that after considerable research on this very important topic I have concluded that they put the cheese on top because it looks like that is where it should be and it is prettier. However, if you place the cheese underneath you prevent a bit of what all really decent burgers should do ... and that is oooze ... all over the salad. I do not like the meat juices in the salad. I like a crisp salad. And this also reduces bottom bun squidge a bit. So the cheese melts under the burger and over the salad and my way also then means I just put my sauce directly on the meat which I prefer. To me all this might look a bit odd but seems nicer and more logical. The very best sauce by the way is a third each of very hot horseradish, full grain mustard and mayo. :) |

Personally I think that bacon has no place in a pure burger. But I am forgiving to others. :D

But if you put the salad on top of the beef with the cheese between the two (like most places do) then the juices won't ooze over the salad. Your way does reduce the bottom bun squidge. Basically you've built an upside down burger. :)
But my way means you can get everything ready and then just put the meat and sauce on .... and take a bite. Perhaps it was for the Australian market .....:D |
