Last week I ate at Moto in Chicago and towards the end of the meal asked the waitress if either of the celebrity chefs that were on Top Chef Texas (Chris and Ritchie) were available. She invited us to tour the kitchen and got a chance to meet and chat with both of them. It was very cool to see a high-end kitchen at work!

It was our pleasure to tour the kitchen of De Kas in Amsterdam.
We were with someone who went to school with the chef, and he proudly showed us around the kitchen and the attached greenhouse where they grow many of the products they use in the restaurant.

Makes sense that one who's spent time working in a restaurant would be uninterested in touring the kitchen, but I've often found it interesting and a pleasure to tour kitchens of Michelin starred restaurants. It's a lovely chance to meet the people behind your food and see how a high-end restaurant kitchen performs.
My favorite kitchen tour has been of Eleven Madison Park. Great people to chat with and you may even have a neat little drink made for you. Per Se's kitchen is cool too, and I'd love to see the French Laundry's in person.
