Favorite sparkling wine and champagne?
Bugey Cerdon which is a small production sparkling Syrah from eastern France is our favorite. Hate Champagne unless it is being offered in EK F. Then somehow it seems wonderful.

de Magerie > Veuve and about 5-10 bucks cheaper

Taitinger, Pol Roger and Bollinger for me. In terms of sparkling wine, usually something from Saumur works well.

Taittinger Comtes de Champagne
Krug le Mesnil Salon with the right food Unfortunately I have quite expensive tastes. In the sparkling wine category I'm trying to get behind the big English brands (e.g. Nyetimber), but find them overpriced. I have however found that there is a lot of quite delightful prosecco that you can buy for under €15 a bottle. |
really like the krug nv... too bad don't get to drink it much...
billecart salmon rose also worth a mention... |
I love wines such as Merlot and Sauvignon and champagne such as Lallier Grand Cru Champagne. I loved this with scotch eggs from some of the bar and restaurant hk =)

Didn't see a thread like this after a quick search so figured I'd start one.

US sparkling wine: Gruet, from New Mexico. Made by a family with long experience in the Champagne region.
Actual champagne: Dom Perignon (duh) or Cristal; I'd really rather drink Gruet or a good California sparkling wine (Gloria Ferrer, Chandon, Mumm Napa, Roederer estate) than lesser true Champagnes. I much prefer Domaine Carneros or Schramsberg to any of those Californias you just mentioned.

You know I love this topic. Thing is i hardly find places to get such wines on my trips.

At the €30-50 range my preferences would be:
Billecart Salmon Ruinart (particularly their Blanc de Blanc though rarely quite in that range) Taittinger Pol Roger Veuve Cliquot |
Favorite sparkling wine and champagne?
Pol roger is my favorite non vintage. Drank it the day I got engaged on the advice of the great wine guy at Petes market in Seattle- which is a crappy market but an excellent wine shop for some reason. Salmon Bullecart is my second favorite.
The Winston Churchill is my favorite vintage champagne Fdw |

My favourite non-vintage champagne is the not particularly well known Champagne Palmer (it used to be the house champagne at Vertigo in the City and we got quite a taste for it).
I also enjoy Perriet-Jouet and Ruinart but dislike Veuve and Moet. Veuve just tastes flat to me. Give me a glass of decent cava or prosecco over Veuve any day! The only champagne I find worse than Veuve is the awful stuff British Airways serve in Club Europe. Laurent Perrier Rose always goes down well. On the sparkling front, I like NZ's Pelorus and England's Nyetimber. I recently took a bottle of Nyetimber to a dinner party with some (very picky) French friends in Paris and after the initial fear that I was trying to poison them, my French friends actually agreed it wasn't bad and that it was "better than bad French champagne" (that was a big compliment!). |
Villa Teresa organic prosecco: light, smooth and affordable.
|
Dom Perignon 2013 for special occasions or just your regular Moet and Chandon Imperial for regular drink imo.
