You probably don't want to know what the folks who work at Moet & Chandon in Epernay think of White Star. They consider it to be the swill that is unsuitable for consumption anywhere else in the world other than by Americans used to Coca Cola, Pepsi, and 7 Up.

Same probably goes for their Nectar line.

Frankly I wouldn't touch any Moet & Chandon with a barge-pole.
Over-priced fizz for the b&t crowd.

Actually Dom's pretty darn good - especially in light of how much of it that they make. It might be over-priced, but there's really no denying that it's a quality Champagne if you taste it objectively. I also find that Chandon's wines from other geographies besides Champagne tend to be consistently good values.

I'm not saying that any Moet & Chandon products are my absolute favorites in any category, but other than their White Star, which is plonk and they know it's plonk but they make it for a particular inexperienced Champagne palate, and their house Brut NV, which is a marketing/fashion-driven wine who's commercial success is hard to argue with, their products are actually pretty high quality and pretty impressive given the volumes that they make.

I like Dom but there's better values to be had. Their rosé is good but other houses can match it for taste and composition (cheaper).

The only Moet from Most Chandon I used to drink was their rose and only because it could be had for cheap. Now that I found a cheap seller for Ruinart rose. Haven't touched a drop since.

Cheaper:
- Jacobs Creek Trilogy
- Chandon Brut NV
- Cloudy Bay Pelorus NV

High-end:
- Laurent Perrier Grand Siècle
- Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque Rosé 2004

For inexpensive Champagne, nothing better than Laurent-Perrier Brut (or demi-sec if you like something a little sweeter). Usually less than $35 in my neck of the woods.

Dom 2005 is fantastic. They serve it on Emirates in F

I am a big big fan of Laurent Perrier Rose. Like to buy it for nice occasions or visiting friends, but don't recall seeing it in restaurants too often. Mr. Chow on 57th street in NY is a place I can recall having it, though at $35 a glass it becomes principle for me to avoid it when I am there and stick with their martinis

For all of you Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut fans, it's on sale at Target for $30.99 - 5% if you have their Red Card. That's an amazingly low price. Through Sept. 26. Again, as I posted above when it was $39.99, I have no idea if their prices are local or national. (Or maybe my store manager was drunk! :D)
