Just read this an hour or so ago and had never heard of freezing grapes. But they sound great.

So I was compelled to run down to the local market and pick up several bunches of seedless green and red grapes. Washed them, picked the grapes off the stems, air-dried them and loaded them into Ziploc bags.

They're freezing as I write this.

I think I'll try the grapes also. I've heard of it before, never tried it.

To the OP - no, I don't wash frozen fruit.

Here's my recipe for a wonderful, thick smoothie:

Place in the blender

1 ripe banana
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
1/2 cup frozen peaches
1 cup frozen strawberries
1 cup white grape juice from concentrate

blend

very thick, very sweet, very delicious.

Using frozen fruit, ice and little or no liquid will give you that super thick, smoothie bar effect.

Everyone seems to be missing something here. Frozen fruits and vegetables are always pre-washed.

Actually, frozen fruit and vegetables shouldn't necessarily be avoided. Remember that freezing actually helps prevent the vitamins and minerals in the produce from degrading.

Now, frozen dinners are a completely different thing.

They are like mini-popsicle bites and really quite good.

I freeze fruit quite often, but I them wash beforehand. Berries are pretty hard to wash after thawing without them falling apart. I usually peel bananas before throwing into the freezer - they make a great base for the smoothie and then I do not have to add ice.
I am pretty sure that the frozen fruits and vegetables from grocery stores are prewashed.

Yes, that is washing fruit that has not been frozen. The question is whether one washes FROZEN fruit.

How? While still frozen? Thawed? Most frozen fruit is too fragile to be washed.

alright, I didn't realize this thread became so popular. To clarify some posts from before, yes I am referring to fruit that comes frozen in plastic bags.

Yes, I buy the big 8lbs bags of strawberries from Costco.

While this thread has been a good source of new ways to eat fruit

It hasn't answered my question. There are obvious reasons why one should wash fresh fruit. Does the same apply to frozen fruit?

I saw one poster mention that the freezing process removes the need to wash the fruit. Does anyone know anything about this?

What sort of health risks are there from eating frozen fruit that hasn't been washed.

You want to get the tiny champagne grapes from the Farmers Market. They are so delicious served frozen

Less than zero IMO.

That's odd as folks don't normally eat egg shells.

The egg itself, obviously, is protected by the shell.

I just place these fruits in the collander (spelling?) and gently run water over them.
