<droool> The first thing I did when I landed in BRU was to head to a local grocery store and pick-up a bottle of all of those so that I could try them that very afternoon.

Decided to finish the night with a Stockyard Oatmeal Stout...

I must have looked like a kid in a candy store yesterday. For about $100, I picked up six-packs of the following:

Smuttynose Old Brown Dog
Smuttynose Summer Weizen
Blue Point Toasted Lager
Blue Point Summer Ale
Cisco Brewers The Grey Lady
Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA
Brooklyn Lager
Brooklyn Pennant Ale

And I have some Yuengling, Tecate, and Dos Equis (amber and lager) left over from a Costco run a few weeks ago. Oh, and some Rogue Dead Guy Ale from my last visit to my craft brew retailer.

It's funny reading this thread - lots of people who drink good imports and/or microbrews - in the context of something I heard on the local news last week. I live in Minnesota, and as some of you may know, our state government was shut down over a funding battle from July 1 until earlier this week. During the shutdown, there were of course grumbles about disruptions of services - but the biggest uproar I heard was when people learned that some distributors for MillerCoors couldn't get their permits renewed. Of all the issues during the shutdown, the possible loss of MGD, Miller Lite and Coors was the one that seemed to bug people the most. Not surprisingly, the budget stalemate was resolved a couple of days later.

As someone who usually has things like Duvel, Delirium Tremens and De Dalle Oerbier in the beer fridge, I couldn't figure out what the fuss was all about....

Because cheap beer has its purpose and its uses too. I can't imagine playing a drinking game with Duvel, or going tubing where I can only drink beer out of cans without something cheap. Plus after I've had a few good ones, everything tastes the same anyway so I switch the cheap stuff.

Plus sometimes you need quantity and don't much $ in your pocket so a twelve pack of MGD for $8 at the gas station does the trick

Ugh. I wouldn't drink MGD nor would I offer it to my friends. But to each his own.
